A long time out and a long time since my last post the farm's been in the full swing of the early summer routine. We've worked cows, started cutting hay, and somehow along the way wound up cutting down a 50 year old Oak tree that toppled over in a storm. To say the least, not much time for Gundams.

Game Review: Dead Space

Dead Space

A game about scary lighting, scary sounds, cutting off limbs, and when Scientology Goes Wild.

The cold draft of space silences the sounds of torment. The broken lights flicker and flash against the blood stained floor. The patter of inhuman feet strikes against the metal floor one step ahead of you around every dark corner. The lights suddenly fail and scraping blood curdling howls resonate through the bulkhead walls. Alone and afraid, you clench your weapon tightly watching as your ammunition counter approaches ‘0’ huddled in a corner. It is not safe. Welcome to the USG Ishimura. Welcome to Dead Space.

This is about nameless pilots, building robots, taking up missions to fight robots, and fighting even bigger robots.

Comic Review: Secret Six

Its been a while so bear with me, the last comic review I did was more condenced than a can of classic Tomato Soup.

Secret Six
on-going series: "Unhinged" story arch
DC Comics, 2009

The Secret Six are DC Comics antihero cast of washed out supervillains leading a life of mayhem against the rest of the supervillian society in the New Earth. They star now in their own ongoing series after two successful mini-series events written by Gail Simone with art by Nicola Scott and Javi Pina. This incarnation of the team began with a rogue villain coming to blows with the DC Comics’ most notorious villains in Villains Unitied (written by Simone, but with art by Dale Eaglesham and Val Semeiks), their first outing and tie-in mini-series for the Infinite Crisis event. In Villains, the mysterious ‘Mockingbird’ gathered a team of six renegade villains to fight against the global army of villains created by Lex Luthor and his inner circle in their revenge initiative for the events of DC’s previous Identity Crisis event. The story follows Deadshot, Scandal Savage, Catman, and Ragdoll; the surviving core-cast members from the original miniseries. The remaining two open seats were filled by Parademon; a runaway soldier from of the demigod Darkseid, and Cheshire, another fatal female villain. With Parademon dead, and Cheshire having betrayed her teammates and gone rogue once more, the team fills the remaining seats with other unknown or otherwise unattached villains. Recently the vacancies serve to fan appeal in adding characters that can provide a range of comedic to hardcore violent action, or a rare spots of character depth.

Replacement Parts and Pieces
Submitted by MobileSuit_Rob on 6 January, 2009 - 11:04.

Like the rest of the toy world, model kits have a tendency to fall apart or break. But there's an advantage to models. They're easier to take apart again if you put it together in the first place, and sometimes replacing one part will give you extra room to repair other parts. I've had that kind of luck with kits lately and it stretches back to last year with my Master Grade F91 Cluster#@&%. Some things are just more fragile than they look and sometimes the form doesn't follow the function. SO this is where I make my excuses. The most recent builds I've been working on, or had lined up for review, have had some form of error to another. Whether the part is broken on the runner or the part breaks between its removal and installation.

With my choice distributor's rule of "If you open it, You can't get replacement parts for it" I've been left with going through HLJ.com. This method has its benefits that it gets me a fresh parts runner straight out of Shinjuku, and if need be I can order bare runners from other kits as well, but it pays to be honest and get only what I need otherwise these 'bogus' orders would cost more. The bad news is the shipping time, which rounds out to one full month on average.

Tis the Season

First off, a whole hearted shout out to the Stormbearers, and a sincere hope you guys haven't resorted to cannibalism yet or using the alcohol as a fire excellerent. I'm just kidding, storm seasons haven't been fair to everyone this past year between the tropical storms that wrecked us and the snow storms up there, the sooner the 2008 weather season (year) is over, the better. We're in a last ditch heat wave right now; 78 degrees after three weeks of 52, 52, and 48.

Coming up on the holidays, I want to say thank you to Josh and Dan for the unexpected, but much appreciated, holiday card. I say that because I'll be celebrating Hanukkah before X-Mas, and I'm too politically correct until after my third cup of coffee in the morning. None the less, the card was a great addition to the collection of Holiday countertop stuffers. Its currently sitting next to the Magic Eightball and Hanukkiah (the menorah) on the mantle.

Gundam Farmer
Submitted by MobileSuit_Rob on 20 November, 2008 - 11:03.

Greetings true believers and visitors, to the first blog by the AWOL Gundam Guy. At this time I would like to formally apologize for my disappearance from CDX after my last reviews and commentary from the podcasts promising reviews of other Gundams. Truth be told I did beging writing reviews, but some computer errors on my part lost what I was writing and on the model front I have been lacking in the proverbial things to write about in general. When I talk about my hobby to some of my local readers, I tell them that the closest hobby shop is a UPS truck and four shipping days away. Now some of you may have been wondering, Where have I been? To that I suppose a little exposition is on order.

Amidst the not so chaotic days, I have been preoccupied with the daily operations and management of my family's farm in Hahira, GA. For those looking on Google Maps, Hahira is that little spec in the northern edge of the boot shaped Lowndes County. Sports fans will know that Lowndes County was awarded "TITLE TOWN" for the past year, and unfortunately Valdosta's let its fame go to its head. Now if only that fame would let us get a real anime/hobby store.
