Thanks! But I'm probably enjoying writing them even more than you are reading them. I just hope I'm doing the toys justice. They are definitely more difficult to photograph than smaller toys.

  • Personally, I find it a bit dissapointing and unworthy of the title "masterpiece".

This version of Voltron has very limited features. For example, the blue lion. The missle canopy feature is gone (the red one where the number 4 is placed). The head missle is gone too. Same with the yellow lion. Absolutely nothing. And the detailing is actually quite minimal for a "masterpiece"(i speak of all the tech details on each toy). The red and green lions do not have a head launching feature anymore. The black lion has no open door chest lock that I was hoping for just like in the cartoons and I also agree that his face just doesnt match up the way it could've. Black lion also has extremely skinny front legs.

The only thing I appreciated about this figure, was it's articulation of heads and legs. But nothing to wow about especially when Masterpiece Optimus Prime conquored all areas of details and then some. A worthy production for the title "masterpiece" if you ask me.

I was hoping for something far more detailed and clever like Masterpiece Optimus and the Yamato Valkyrie fighter.
And at 150.00 USD? No way.

90.00 USD would be the right price for this so so version. Its just too much hype. "OOH LOOK AT THIS!! AWESOME!!" ... nope.

Id personally save my money for an original one on ebay. I own 5 sets already. This one is just too expensive for what it offers. The book box isnt convincing enough.
    My two cents.

Hi, how tall is the figure? It looks great. I'm kind of hoping he's at least 7" tall standing.

    thanks.

  • I should have noticed this, but the chest piece is NOT supposed to come off, mine apparently is just broken. It's supposed to raise up on a "living hinge", but remain attached. From what I can tell, the plastic was pretty thin and hard on mine. Not very flexible. Anyway, it's broken. Damn.

  • sweet review Dave. Funny, for some reason I've never really known about the different modes for this guy. Still great review, thanks for posting and keep up the good work.

  • Both the red dragon thunderzord and the assault team were package in one box : the thunder megazord. But it was release just a few weeks before the beginning of the third season.

Kaiyodo is a mixed bag. Their robot museum line (like this toy) is solid and sturdy - no floppy parts - you can handle them and play with them.

Other older kaiyodo toys, such as the evas, virtual on, and even the trigun toys are very fragile.

if you stick with toys within the "Robot Museum" line, you should be ok, but really, who knows with kaiyodo. I'm hoping the revoltech series is better.

Yujin toys are more toy-like, but less detailed, and softer plastic. Think MSIA gundam toys. The DX GGG figures are another story - those are really great. Good-looking and very toy-like.

hi, I just recently ordered a couple gaogaigar figures from kaiyodo. this will be my first figures from kaiyodo. I haven't ordered choryujin yet, but I was wondering if it had the weird joint thing kaiyodo's known for? and does it have the "rest-easy" durability or "don't touch it!" durability?

I'm hoping the gaogaigar figures are at least as solid and durable as you say this guy is.

oh, and not to bombard you with questions about yesterday's toys, but which is better for the gaogaigar figures, yujin or kaiyodo? kaiyodo looked like the stronger toy of the two, but I've been hearing so much about their QC.

...man, choryujin looks cool. might have to buy him anyway...

  • Thanks. I had put mine in the same way and I did just as you had; pushed the hands up against it. kinda sucks that they couldn't figure out something better, but then again, it's just for display purposes anyway. well it's good to know that I'm not the only one with the shakey wrists. Thanks!

jinuo   11 years 25 weeks ago
  • They are a little loose, but if you push the hands in against the discs, they shouldn't rattle.

For the record, mine are in so they bulge out (is that convex?)

The instructions really don't mention how they are supposed to to in unfortunately.

  • Hey, I just recently received my Max Factory GoDannar and it's pretty great. there is a slight problem: the black washers that go in the wrist are kind of loose. I thought they'd fit more snug. is there something I'm doing wrong, or is this the norm? right now I put the washers in concave-side out. I'm really careful with this one so maybe I've underestimated it...

    anyway, thanks!

I like the way Nekrodave reviews the JM's since you can tell they are truthfull & clear. Since I'm a JM collector, I know his reviews will help me a lot.

Oh, BTW, I'm going nuts trying to get a JM T28; everytime I'm getting outbid. Nice review!!

Must have been a joke - no battleshark was included. Maybe they will offer it as an HK exclusive or something.

Speaking of the Battleshark, I seem to remember reading something that the SOC was going to include a cardboard fold out battleshark....or was that a joke?

  • I owned an old voltron toy before, the one you made a pose with the masterpiece edition when i was around 8 years old. But it was gone long time ago. I would keep it if i'd known toys can be such a wonderful things nowadays. I still remember that some part of the old voltron was made from metal if i'm not mistaken and it feels and looks solid. From this new voltron i can see it looks good but the face which the black lion forms, looks a bit weird, it looks too human and also the head of the 5 lions looks like cat more than a lion. I personally think that the old lion's head has more aggressive looks and when they are in lions form, it looks better than the new one. Anyway... it looks great in mecha form and i will get one for myself for sure. Thanks for the great review of this masterpiece.

I saw the image, and I still say that it's not "supposed" to go in. The BFJ is not on the tray, and you have to fudge it to get it in (turn the legs sideways maybe?). I'm not going to advocate it, cause you may damage the thighs if you try to force him in. I don't want anyone breaking their BFR cause I said it would fit.

  • Battle Fever Robo

The image of the SOCBFRobo 'fitting' into the BattleShark only shows him in up to his prohibitive thigh guards. The image is over at the TBDX BBS in a thread called 'WOOHOO! Fatty's COMING!'.

hypermook   11 years 26 weeks ago
  • Battle Fever Robo

If you can find an image, send it to me. Maybe you have to remove parts. BFJ fits in the tray, but the tray wont fit in the shark.

Sweet review Josh...definetaly gonna nab this guy at some point. Odd about fitting into the Battleshark, cause I remember seeings somwhere a picture of the SOC fitted inside it...

  • He's being a bit of a pill on this, but I need to give the webmaster/owner JoshB credit for all of the images and movies he took for this review. My own digital camera was non-functional, so he suggested splitting the review up since he had a DX Travelion as well. Thanks for the help, Joshua!

No, it's the RX-78's legs; I double checked after you said something. The RX-178 has open square vents on the calves and back of the ankle; the RX-78 has a rounded calf and no ankle vent.

I've got one of these things, and from what i can tell not only the feet but also the lower legs are off the MK.II. the gun is the beam rifle for the sazabi, and the axes are the ones used for the Ranba Ral custom Zaku 1 MG.

  • Gundam Easter Basket

    Here's what I see here-

--Torso & legs: RX-78 Gundam ("Mobile Suit Gundam")
    --Feet & shoulders: RX-178 Gundam Mk.II ("Z Gundam")
    --Arms: MSN-00100 Hyaku-Shiki ("Z Gundam")
--Shield: RX-79[G] Gundam Mass Production Ground Type ("The 08th MS Team")
--Head: RX-78GP04G Gundam "Gerbera" (from "0083: Stardust Memory" OVA, but not seen onscreen)
--Weapons: [can't identify, must be cusom made for this toy]
