Real Sofubi kit Hedorah 25cm model kit, ¥3,990 un-built/unpainted. Assembly and painting is available for ¥4,200.
Apparently this is a "re-paired version", with corrections to the head and eyes. I don't remember seeing this before, though. Another Hedorah.

New from Marmit in November 2009!

OK, OK, I know I've been really slack on reporting the news the last little while. Since my interest is getting further and further removed from new toys, it's been a bit hard to stay motivated. I really didn't think anyone would notice or care, but it turns out I was wrong. So, here goes.. this months offerings from Marmit, due out in November.

Andromeda. I think this this is from Yamato II. Please correct me if that's wrong (like I have to ask!). 45cm long and weighing in at 1.0kg, this toy will retail for ¥27,000. Made of diecast and ABS plastic with movable turrets.

OK, now this next is about 248,000 light years removed from the Andromeda. A vinyl figure of a '70s pin-up model.

It was one of those odd discoveries. The way the arms are sculpted on Vegetius enables you to add a second set of arms, giving it jointed elbows and a better appearance. One of the cheif complaints of the character was that the arms looked short and stubby. But NO MORE! Vegetius now has longer arms.

Who has two pointed claws and jointed elbows?

THIS GUY!

Quantities are limited to 10 peices on this version, so act fast. Basically, I've taken the arms off of the defect ones and are adding them to the existing limited stock.

Marmit's Heavy Gokin Devilman may be cheapest in price but has a great deal of diecast, looks great, and is a fantastic value.

I don't know much about Devilman other than it was created by Go Nagai in 1972. Honestly the fact that it was a chogokin made by Marmit was the main reason I bought it. I read somewhere that Devilman was Marmit's first "Heavy Gokin" and decided to buy it. The box was small, almost the size of a book and got me nervous.

I opened it and was happily surprised! The figure was the size of most SOC, around 6 inches and had a very nice heft to it and a ton of diecast. The face, extra hands and wings came in simple plastic tray.

This figure is the blue version, the normal box and regular version is green... I liked blue better so I bought this one.

It has a nice presence and tons of articulation, everything, I mean everything turns, moves, tilts, you name it.

You can switch the closed fists to the karate chop hands, pop the wings on his back and he is ready to go. The waist turns, the legs tilt, ankles turn, and toes tilt.

The arms move into tons of positions.

I really like this chogokin for its price, originally angloz.com had it for only 12 USD but sadly I missed out on that and bought one for 20 USD plus US shipping. Have to say for the amount of diecast (the chest, forearms, legs, feet, everything other than wings, head, hands, and joints are diecast!!!) for 30USD or less seems a better deal than some of the crud I have bought.

Of course there are minor paint flaws, and plastic joints have off colored look but I still love it.

As you can tell with the pictures utilizing the joint articulation, you need a stand to keep it upright, as the legs and feet are so narrow that in other than normal poses he falls over... adapt is the key to life.

So basically Devilman a nice "Old School" chogokin that is simple and artistic. Surf Ebay and get one if you like diecast, Marmit... or Devilman (I know, I know I should watch some cartoons of him on youtube)

Ok, it's time for more announcements from Marmit about upcoming toys. All toys must be pre-ordered by May 31st.

This first one is a bit odd. Made to commemorate 1,000,000 visitors to the Marmit webpage, this character is called "Mamitora", which translates, online at least, to "Mammee Tiger". Looks more like a cross between a raccoon and a bummble bee to me. And if you look closely, it's actually just an old Vinyl Paradise Baragon with a new head and tail. Kind of cute, I guess, but I'll be passing on this one. 23cm tall and ¥4,000.

Next, we've got yet another one of those Super Action Hero (SAH) Buster Vanks Di figures, this one called Kira Banks Skuama? As usual, I reserve the right be totally wrong about these names. But either way, I think this might be my favorite of these figures so far, it being the most monster-ific of the bunch to my eyes. 30cm tall and retails for ¥10,500.

Now, more regular vinyl kaiju. First, a repaint of the worst Hedorah toy ever. Some suckas out there are gonna shell out ¥8,400 for this 25cm monstrosity.

Ok, that Hedorah sucks, but check out Jumbo King. Man, what a stupid looking kaiju. They must really be scraping the bottom of the barrel to be releasing this guy. ¥5,250 for 22cm of ugly.

This next ones not so bad. Mazoron is 23cm tall and also ¥5,250.

I think this guy is called "Black Giant". I think he's the guy who designed that Hedorah above, after he got justifiably tarred and feathered and tarred again. 23cm tall and ¥5,250.

Ok, here's one that's actually pretty neat. A Machine Saura (or however you spell it) with a clear head. 25cm tall and also ¥5,250.

Ok, last but not least, toys for kidnicky! Check out the realistic sculpts on these "Real Sofubi Models" of Namegon and Angilus. Namegon is listed as 22cm long and ¥5,250 completed. Angilus on the other hand is 50cm long and costs ¥3,990 but I think you have to assemble and paint it yourself.

Upcoming toys from Marmit.

Here's what's been announced this month by Marmit. All items must be pre-ordered by February 28th and will be released in May.

First up, a new entry in the Real Sofubi Model series. Shapley Seijin hails from Ultra Seven. This vinyl kit will stand 30cm tall when completed. You can order it un-built for ¥5,250 or completed for ¥9,450.

Next up, this months regular sofubi releases. The first is the Moonlight SY3 space rocket from Destroy All Monsters. 25cm long and ¥5,250.

Now back to normal kaiju. I feel like this has been posted before, but I can't find it. Maybe it's a new repaint. Daidarahorshi from Ultraman A. 23cm tall and ¥5,250.

Wait. I take that back. Check out this Gameron from Ultra Q. It has a little boy riding on it's back. 23cm tall and ¥7,350. If you want a little boy riding your kaiju, you gotta pay extra. I never saw the show before but I assume it makes perfect sense. Actually on second thought, it probably makes no sense at all and is all the better for it.

Now, I KNOW I posted this guy before and this is indeed a new color way. SAH Buster Vanks Dai. Clear plastics and various hands. 30cm tall and ¥10,500.

Lastly, there's also a bunch of train sets from Galaxy Express 999. It looks like 4 sets in all, which accompanying figures and a limited edition figure as well. To be totally honestly, there's too much info for me to want to bother with trying to translate. If I spoke Japanese, I'd tell you more.
