So every single McFarlane Toy I have ever bought has pretty much disintegrated or fallen apart over time. Sometimes almost immediately, sometimes it takes a while. Now understand I am neither rough with my collectibles, nor do I abuse them in any way. Yet somehow - like clockwork, McFarland products never seem to last long in my house.

To its credit this set hasn’t broken and no pieces have fallen off in the year plus it has sat in the back of a shelf. Sculpt detail is excellent but the paint application is pretty mediocre. At first glance it looks OK but upon closer inspection it is actually either under painted or over sprayed at points.

As an “action figure” or "play set” it fails miserably. The package actually describes it as a “play set” but it doesn’t actually do anything and the figures are not poseable. What you get is pretty much a static statue reenacting a specific scene from the first Aliens vs. Predator film.

Granted it looks good on the shelf but it has zero play value so I can not recommend this for anyone except a die hard Aliens/Predator fan. Everyone else should pass even if its on clearance.

:

When I was younger I saw this really messed up movie about 2 Canadian guys and a dog who flew. It really blew my mind with just how out there it was. I mean, I was 10 years old when I saw it for the first time, and It has stuck with me since.

As a side note, it is really odd how things that I experienced during this period of my life are the things I gravitate towards. Tron, The Black Hole, Strange Brew… Xanadu… But I digress..

In 2000 Mcfarlane Toys released Bob and Doug McKenzie figures. These things are awesome. Bob and Doug were packaged separately, but their bases and accessories combined to form the stage of their TV show, The Great White North.

The likenesses of the figures to their characters are amazing. Bob looks just like Rick Moranis and Doug looks just like Dave Thomas. Although the figures are stuck in a sitting pose, there is a surprisingly large amount of articulation. They can drink beer in any number of positions.

McFarlane went overboard in terms of accessories. The bases look like a wooden floor and they connect to each other. Each has a sound chip with 2 different sounds in them. The sounds are activated by pressing a button on the side of the base.

Each figure also came with one half of the table. The halves can stand separately, or you can combine them into one long table through an innovative method of hiding the middle legs. Of course the main accessory here is beer. Both toys include copious amounts of beer bottles (both long and short neck), cardboard beer cases and even in-scale beer bottle caps! And what would beer be without food? The figures come with a grill that has removable hamburger patties, and there are also small half eaten donuts (presumably Jellies). Last but not least there is also a cooler for the beer. The cooler has small areas in it so you can place your choice of beer in it. Heck, there is even a cover for the cooler!

This is a really fun set, and as far as I know, the only toys ever made from this movie. I would have really liked to have seen them continue with this line, as there are so many great characters that need to be made.

If you are a fan of Strange Brew – you NEED this set.

I have to admit, I am one of the few people I know that actually liked all the Matrix movies. The toys however, were a different matter. Most of them were just plain bad. It's common knowledge that I haven't been a big fan of McFarlane toys in the past, and the majority of the Matrix toys just reinforced that opinion.:

It's common knowledge that I haven't been a big fan of McFarlane toys in the past, and the majority of the Matrix toys just reinforced that opinion.

If McFarlane had any chance of redemption, it was through this figure. Did they succeed? Not exactly... but they came close.

Released in November 2003, the Sentinel Deluxe Boxed Set is truly an amazing thing to behold. With tentacles stretching out 27 inches, and some with fully articulated claws, you can tell that this is a labor of love.

Each tentacle is fully poseable by way of an internal wire mechanism surrounded by a rubber sleeve. The rubber and wire is stiff, so it feels like each section is individually jointed. At the end of each tentacle is a claw. Some are fixed open or closed while some are fully jointed.

The tentacles connect to a huge, solid body, covered with dozens of crimson eyes. Beneath the body are 10 claws, poseable only by ball joints where they meet the underside of the sentinel.

Also included is a base that is supposed to support the sentinel by means of a giant metal rod that connects to the main body. However, the Sentinel is too heavy for this base, and requires additional support from the tentacles to support it.

It sounds cool, doesn't it? Well, it looks cool, but once you handle it the problems begin to show. First of all, the claws at the end of the tentacles are very fragile. The articulated ones break at the joints very easily. The connectors are just not strong enough. Next, the claws under the body are not articulated - they are just solid pieces of plastic held in by a flimsy ball joint. They pop out when you try to move them. Finally, the base just sucks. There's no way it can hold the weight of the posed Sentinel.

Still, it looks cool, and is one of those toys that you non-collector friends will see and think is awesome. Consider it a prop as opposed to a toy, and you won't be disappointed.

Since I've already expressed my dislike for the Tetsuo figure, you can imagine
how I feel about Kaneda. He's about 6 3/4 inches tall and has 10 points of
articulation. 11 if you count the goggles that swing freely around his neck.:

how I feel about Kaneda. He's about 6 3/4 inches tall and has 10 points of
articulation. 11 if you count the goggles that swing freely around his neck.

I think, to call something a point of articulation, it really needs to do
something significant. Rotating a leg mid-thigh should not be articulation.
Nor should a perfectly good joint that is hampered by a static accessory like
a big gun. Especially when the gun is attached to some straps which are part
 of the figure.

Oh, and good luck getting the power hose into the bottom of the gun.

Anyway, the detail is nice, but it's a bit too much. McFarlane's designers
are used to creating hyper detailed figures like spawn, but that style doesn't
 fit these figures.

McFarlane also released a bike to go with the Kaneda figure, but the figure
cannot sit on the bike. In series 2, they released a Kaneda
 and Bike box set
that featured a new sculpt of Kaneda, sitting on the bike. So, If you already
bought the bike from series one and this figure, you have to buy another, rare,
box set just to get the pose you wanted in the first place.

Nice.
