SDCC08: Gargamel

For those of you who don't follow the vinyl scene, Gargamel is one of the most respected independent Japanese vinyl toy companies out there. They are well known for their collaborations with others in the close knit vinyl community.

For the longest time, I had a thing against this modern vinyl movement. I thought some of it was nice enough, but the high pricetag for the small pieces really scared me off. The thing is though, once I held one in my hands, I understood what it was all about. The quality of the vinyl is amazing, and the paint detail is beautiful. Each item is made in much smaller runs than something you would find by Bandai, and each peice just oozes with love.

Just check out some of what they had on display:

In addition to my gargamel purchases, we also traded some stuff... the whole crew was really kind and generous, and I can't wait to see what they come up with next.

Josh failed to mention that he broke my cherry too! He sneakily forced me into my now coveted Zagoran Tank mini.

I love how much fun Gargamel packs into their figures. I saw some great monster renditions of theirs awhile back and even though they had a great presence the figures still looked like a lot of fun, even for how simple they are. Good stuff. Hopefully Gargamel's products will gain some popularity and the prices will come down like we've seen with many other vinyl toy companies.
