The Phantom/Mask of the Red Death

One of the more memorable moments in the 1925 silent movie classic “The Phantom Of the Opera” is when Erik (aka The Phantom) makes his appearance at the costume ball dressed as the Red Death. It is this scene that is depicted here in another of Sideshow Toys’ line of 8″ Universal Monster figures.

This figure looks great, but features only six points of articulation. This would not be a big problem except that the toy is molded in a pose that is always leaning forward and there is no way to counteract it. As a result, it is prone to falling over. Mine has fallen off the shelf more times than I care to count. However, it has never broken so at least it is durable.

The same excellent sculpt and paint you would expect from this line is here and the toy has several accessories. These include two heads, one with the skull mask and another with Erik’s misshapen face. There is also a nice staff that features a snake curled around it with a skull in it’s mouth at the top. The cloth cape that comes wiith the toy looks nice, but it can be a pain to attach the two connecting pieces at the collar. Rounding out the costume is a hat with a feather attached. Naturally, there is a base to stand the toy on as well.
