Legendary Red Lion
I like robots. I like lions. I reeeeaally like robot lions. So when I heard about a new Voltron show I was… well… skeptical because I remembered the… last time it happened.
Luckily this show was made by the same folks who made Avatar and The Legend of Korra, so I knew we were in good hands. And the toy partner was announced as… Playmates? The Ninja Turtles guys?
But boy did they step up to the plate.
Check out the video review.
This is the Legendary Red Lion, Keith’s trusty steed and Voltron’s right-hand man. The sculpt and colors are spot-on. And while there are a couple inconsistencies between the CG model and this toy, it’s forgiven since this also transforms into an arm. Especially since the show features a segment where the Red and Green Lions magically change their dimensions during the transformation.
But what we have here is a gorgeous robot kitty.
And this thing doesn’t just look good. It plays good.
All the legs, head, torso, and tail are nicely articulated with gorgeous ratchet joints. Posing this puma generates a symphony of clicks, clacks, and ratta-tats that never fails to put a tear in my eye.
Plus, since they’re ratchet joints, they hold a pose really well. Anything a cat can do, this toy can do.
This friendly feline also comes with a few accessories to round out the package. He has a laser gun (with FIRING MISSILE), half of Voltron’s sword, and a teeny-tiny rubber Keith.
Keith can drive up into Kitty Kat’s torso and lock into place so you don’t have to worry about losing him.
The laser thing attaches to the top of the robit for menacing-ness. You fire the missile by pressing the blue button. The spring is actually pretty tight too so there’s a good amount of power here.
I love it when companies refuse to cheap out on firing missiles. They’re so much fun.
The sword is decent. The Tigertron can hold it in it’s jaws, but it’s a bit floppy. Once it combines with the piece from the Green Leokaiser there’s no problem at all. Since this is mostly for when Reddo is the arm of Voltron.
SPEAKING OF WHICH.
Transforming him is pretty easy.
You just pop open the back and push in the front legs.
Then you push the back legs inside the thigh.
Then you push the tail all the way in until the nub catches it and pull out the connector piece under the robo butt.
And then you’re done! You have just made an arm-thing.
As an arm, it has a bicep swivel, universal shoulders, a ratchet elbow, opening hand, and 360 degree wrists.
But hey, even if you have no desire to form Voltron (weirdo) this toy is awesome. At $17.99 it’s very competitively priced, and I think you get a lot of bang for your buck! The articulation is great, and playability is off the charts! As long as you like robolions.
He is highly recommended.
