Lots going on with star wars this year, but the big news is not what you think. First off, lets start with Star Wars Black. These 6" figures are designed to evoke the feeling of a specific scene in the movies, so when you see the figure you instantly know where it was from. No expense was spared making these the most detailed versions of these characters ever produced. Hasbro called upon Gentle Giant studios to produce these figures and they will retail for $19.99 each and will include 8 characters from the movies, mostly focused around the original trilogy. They showed four on the floor (Sandtrooper, R2, Luke, Darth Maul) and teased two for San Diego Comic-Con -( Boba Fett and Han in Carbonite) IMG_7636 IMG_7645 IMG_7638 IMG_7639 IMG_7647 IMG_7646 IMG_7637 IMG_7648 IMG_7648 In addition, Hasbro is also releasing a 3 3/4 line of Black figures, which are basically the continuation of the vintage line. It's not clear if these will be done by Gentle Giant as well. IMG_7640 IMG_7641 IMG_7642 IMG_7643 IMG_7644 IMG_7644 IMG_7650 IMG_7651 IMG_7652 IMG_7653 IMG_7654 The big news is that Hasbro has split the figure lines between collectors and kids. Basic figures will see a price drop to 5.99 and feature 5 points of articulation and a neutral pose. If that sounds like the old Kenner figures, it's not an accident. I spoke to the brand manager and thats what they were going for. Personally, I'm more excited about these than I am the Black line. Slave-1 and the Jedi Starfighter are much smaller and designed for a lower price point. IMG_7667 IMG_7668 In addition to the 3 3/4 line, Hasbro is also releasing some larger 12" figures that also are limited to 5 points and a neutral pose (once again, in a nod to the old lines). Most are pretty basic but there is an Anakin to Vader transformation set that changes lightsaber colors and sounds when Vader armor is attached. Very cool. IMG_7738 IMG_7739 IMG_7742 IMG_7746 For the kids, new Jedi Force figures include Jabba and Gamorrean Guard. IMG_7820 IMG_7821 IMG_7819 IMG_7888 The Jedi Force Heroes have an action feature where you squeeze the legs and the arms move.
