Tomcat Robo

While this was made by Mark, and part of the Gokin Robo toy line, it was never included in the Convertors lineup. I can see why.

This too comes in a nice box with beautiful art and instructions on back. it was also available carded.

Inside, the mandatory Styrofoam tray.

You  get the toy, sticker sheet, and missiles.

First things first – this thing is ugly. And not “hey this is quaint and retro” ugly, I’m talking actually ugly. It’s like the bastard love child between Walkman Robo and Leader-1.

The head – well I think the head is a mistake. The box art and instructions show the nose of the jet  up (like a Transformers Seeker Jet) but the thing has a hinge on it – I think someone made a mistake on the art and instructions. I am going to go with the nose down as the right way.

Robot mode is loaded with problems. The arms are too loose and don’t move other than to slide out and down.

The chest is diecast, which is nice.

The missiles can fire from the launcher in the chest which you activate by pressing on the head.

The legs also have zero articulation aside from what you have to move to transform it.

Despite being hideous in robot mode, the Jet mode is not bad. It all ties together pretty solidly and at least from the top looks great. There are molded on wheels that actually roll on the bottom.

One major problem – the tail fins are just held in place with friction – not even any kind of peg. They fall off easily.

The stickers seem unnecessary as several are already pre-applied. Can you imagine how much worse this would look all stickered up?

It’s an interesting toy – the Convertor that never was.
