Outlander

The Glyos-affiliated toy world is experiencing something of a renaissance. Ground zero is, of course, Onell, which continues to crank out imaginative and fun variations of its characters. The Four Horsemen’s Outer Space Men is going strong and the full rollout of the new Power Lords is imminent. And a handful of passionate creators have recently brought new figures to market.

The Outlander is the first original articulated action figure released by NiStuff, a one-man operation out of New York. Ni is also a prolific customizer and painter. Check out our interview with the man himself here.

I missed out on the first few waves of figures, but I’ve grabbed everything I could for the last six months. I love this sculpt, and Ni’s finish selections are consistently fantastic.

If you’re familiar with Onell’s figures, the Outlander mold is in the same wheelhouse. Durable PVC construction, Glyos joints, about 2.75 inches tall. 18 parts (16 shown; the ankle pegs are removable).

Outlander introduces a few innovative play features. The helmet is a wonderful addition to the mix. It pops on and off with a satisfying snap.

The lower arms feature angled joints which allow for lateral huggy articulation. The ankle joint is on a bias.

While Onell’s core characters tend towards an organic, insectoid design vocabulary, the Outlander is more techno-humanoid, at least under that alien helmet. I love the vacant face.

Most colorways are accented with thoughtful paint applications throughout.

Another recent wave uses glow-in-the-dark pvc to great effect.

The Elder variant adds Onell swing joints at the arms and reconfigures some parts for a more imposing, elaborate build.

And of course you can have lots of fun with other Glyos-compatible parts.
