ToQ-Oh

Original MSRP: 7200

Ressha Sentai ToQger is the latest in the long running Super Sentai series! It’s about a group of young warriors who use their imaginations to fight the evils of the Shadow Line! With their powers combined (and their trains), they can call upon their mighty robot, TOQ-OH

I should point out that the show is pronounced “TAH-KYU-JER“, lest someone prounce the robot’s name as “TACO“.

Anyway, there’s a video review of this guy right here!

Alright, so let’s get down to business. First, I’ll talk about the individual trains (or “Ressha’s“, if you will) before I talk about the robot as a whole.

First up is the pink Ressha. It looks pretty good. It’s smaller than the others because it’s one of the arms.

All of the Ressha’s have wheels, and can split apart and hook onto one another to create one large train line. I’ll show a picture later in the review.

The yellow Ressha is basically the exact same as the pink. There is some slight remolding on the front, but it does the exact same thing.

The blue Ressha is also painted and rendered pretty well here. I really like the look of bullet trains. Just like the others, it can split apart and combine.

The green Ressha is molded slightly differently than the blue one, but it is basically the same and serves the same purpose.

Last up is the red Ressha. This one is my favorite beause I love steam engines. It looks and feels great! It’s super long and pretty well detailed. Just like the others, it can split apart and combine.

I should also note that all of the Ressha’s can be used with the ToQ-Changer (their transformation device), so that’s something that’s really cool. They actually sold a special set that includes the Changer with the robot, but I’m super cheap so I didn’t spring for the extra playability.

Anyway, here’s a picture of them connected in a line.

Cool.

Alright. It’s time to COMBINE!

You basically just gather the trains side-by-side, smush them together, then stand up the robot. It’s that simple.

Then you just flare out the legs, spin the wrists, spin the green and blue tips, and flip up the red Ressha’s tip.

The final thing to do is to flip the back of the red Ressha onto it’s back and pop out the head.

Then open up the doors on the face and you’re done!

I should also note that if you want to take him apart, PLEASE use the buttons above the feet and next to the shoulders. If you don’t you could seriously break something. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

I think ToQ-Oh looks pretty good combined, even if it is a little doofy-looking.

And don’t worry guys! I resisted the urge to take pictures of his giant train-wiener.

Oh wait, I meant to say “I resisted the urge to *not* take pictures of his giant train-wiener.”

DSC01143

The paint and details look really nice.

DSC01179

Articulation is standard for these guys. You can move the arms. That’s it. Good job.

He also comes with his Fumikiriken! (You know, the sword/gun thing). It’s only painted on one side, which is alright, but I would have liked to see it fully painted.

Overall, ToQ-Oh is pretty cool. If you can get past the weirdness of the way it looks you’ll find a really nice toy here! I definitely recommend it. Of course, it’s a bit self-conscious so you might need to find someone to lift its heavy load.
