Scramble Dash
Recently we got wind that a new unlicensed reproduction of a Great Mazinger Scramble Dash was on the market. We were offered the chance to take a look at this repro and so what was up. The good news is that it is not a cheap knockoff product, but rather a nicely made, quality copy.

The toy is sold in a plastic bag with no header card.
At first glance, it looks REALLY good. The molding is sharp, the materials are identical. What an odd item to decide to make copies of.
The back and the wing have stickers pre-applied.
The clip for the waist pivots as it should.
The Scramble Dash separates into two parts for easy shipping.
So what’s the deal with this? What’s this a bootleg of? Turns out this is a copy of the UniFive Great Mazinger Scramble Dash. This was a re-release of the original Jumbo Machinder from the 70s, with slight changes in order to differentiate it from the original. So, how is this release different?
1. There are no copyright marks under the wing.
2. The repro has a white outline around the sticker.
3. The repro has a slightly darker shade of red on the wing.
4. The stickers on the back of the engine don’t line up right
Otherwise, the fit and finish are the same as the original. However, if you already have the UniFive Great Mazinger, why would you want this? Well, if you own an original Mattel Shogun Warrior Mazinga, this wing will fit it perfectly!
You can see the comparison next to the UniFive Great Mazinger:
The wing also looks good on the UniFive.
Now, I know that there are going to be some collectors who will have a problem with this item. I am normally not for 1:1 bootleg items – I prefer my bootlegs to be radical re-imaginings. But in this case I think the item has a legitimately cool use – to outfit that Mattel Shogun that never came with a wing! To get this wing alone on the aftermarket would cost you a ton of money. This copy is as good as the original, for a fraction of the price. My only concern is with sellers passing this off as original equipment. Hopefully this page will act as a guide to help tell the difference.
