VooV Fire Chemic

VooV seems to be Bandai’s entry into the scaled vehicle market with a transforming gimmick. There isn’t too much information available regarding VooV in English but all the toys in the line seem to transform by flipping inside out. The VooV Guardian vehicles seem to be a subset of the VooV series featuring vehicles that can combine into the VooV Guardian Robo. All the VooV Guardian trucks can interchangeably become the leg of the VooV robo.

Fire Chemic comes in a small box and is packaged with instructions and a small sticker sheet that is applied over the moulded details in the alternate vehicle form.

In normal form, Fire Chemic seems to be some sort of ladder truck. There is a fair amount of moulded details on the vehicle but the simple transformation design means that the VooV vehicles are all essentially boxes on wheels.

Transformation is very simple; the side panes flip, allowing the body of the truck to rotate around the rear base. The entire vehicle basically flips inside out and the entire process is surprisingly fun.

The alternate form of Fire Chemic is some sort of fire truck with a rotating turret on top. The design is still essentially the same as the boxy ladder truck except in orange with some different moulded details.

While the 700 yen retail price for the VooV vehicles feels a bit pricey for such a small toy, the usual discount from AmiAmi/HLJ drops the price down to around 500 yen. At slightly more than the usual Tomica car, the VooV vehicles are a lot of fun to keep around the desk. I’m not much of a car collector and only have some random Dream Tomica cars, but I love fiddling around and transforming the Fire Chemic at my desk. I bought two VooV vehicles on a whim to pad out a AmiAmi order and definitely don’t regret it.
