Deformation Robo Sky Father

This is another oddity from Hayakawa, a cheap toy probably meant to be sold in train stations and airports. I swear, next time I go to Japan I am going to hit up every train station and tourist trap looking for these little things.

The toy comes on the card, and I am not sure exactly what it’s proper name is. On the package it’s labeled 変形ロボ 天空神 (Deformation Robo Sky Father), but on the tail it says “Tenku”. I think Sky Father works better, so that’s what we’re going with.

The robot comes on a blister card which appears reasonably modern in comparison to other cheap toys we’re reviewed. There’s no date anywhere, so one can only assume it’s release date…

Robot mode is actually really nice if you can look past the cheap plastic. It’s got tight joints and cuts a nice pose. The feet are cut at angles so the legs splay out a bit. Joints are ball joints at the arms and legs only.

Viewed from the back, it basically just looks like a jumbo jet with arms and legs.

The smirk on the face is adorable. You don’t typically see this personality on cheap designs.

Sky Father includes a cool little gun which has a 5mm port for a handle, and smaller pegs that connect to the side of the arm. It’s rather well thought out.

Transformation to Jet mode is easy but it’s exceptionally well done. Everything has a peg or a tab that holds it into place to create a solid jet mode. It’s cute.

In another example of good engineering on a cheap toy, the gun can stow between the legs.

Sadly attention to paint detail is not as good as the engineering.

I’m loving this company, Hayakawa, and I’m looking forward to discovering more of their toys.
