Quintero
Description from http://alienanthology.wikia.com/
Guillermo Quintaro is a member of the USCM (United States Colonial Marines) who is a part of a search and rescue team sent to the Zeta II Reticuli system aboard the USS Sephora to investigate the USS Sulaco in search of Ellen Ripley, Corporal Dwayne Hicks, and the rest of the missing marines who were dispatched to LV-426 19 weeks earlier.
I am a fan of Aliens, The original 4 movies some 90’s comics, and come 90’s toys. Full disclosure however, I have not played the Aliens: Colonial Marines game, or kept up on the more recent mythology. So I am judging this figure solely on it’s own merits with no attachment to the character or his history.
Sample provided by Hiya Toys, Pre-order available though Big Bad Toy Store.
Let’s check out the packaging:
My sample came shipped with a plastic bag over it to keep the box extra protected for those collectors who like to keep their packaging mint, which was thoughtful.
It has photos of the figure and the Game/movie logo laid over hive and xenomorph designs, there is a windowed front so you can view the actual figure without opening the box.
There is a clamshell holding the figure in place and it can all be repackaged after opening with out any damage to the plastic or box. There is also a removable USCM card which could be used as a backdrop in a display.
Out of the Box, It looks OK from a distance and is detailed over all of it. The armor and camo look better than the exposed flesh areas.
Like most figures in this scale the likenesses area bit simple, but his face is less detailed and accurate than many of his peers. He has a neutral face but, even just looking more stern would have helped a lot. Looking at his pic from the game, he seems to have Grey stubble on his head and chin that could have been added to help his likeness as well. My sample has a paint flaw on his eyebrow (unless the character has a scar I am unaware of) and a plastic artifact on the side of his head. Also the paint on the mohawk does not reach to his scalp. Overall not impressive.
When I opened I was impressed with his armor and array of accessories. Standing 3-3/4″ tall, this Colonial Marine comes equipped with a pulse rifle, pistol, motion tracker, welding torch, M3 pattern personal armor, and M10 pattern ballistic helmet.
His articulation is good and the joints remained tight, as far as poseability I have no complaints he is on par with the original Star Wars Black Series 3 3/4 line.
His poses really shine when you use the accessories.
I very much enjoyed the base it came with. A Well painted deck plate with pegs for figures and the ability to re-arrange and combine with stands from other figures in the line. awesome! Many lines do not bother with stands at all, so well job Hiya!
The paint on the Skin as I said is not great its uneven in areas and started rubbing off near joints almost immediately.
The points while allowing a good range of motion and poseablity are a bit odd in places. Like how he has different wrist joints on his hands, I suppose to hold the guns better doesn’t bother me but worth noting. the elbows neck and wrist do all have a bit of a tendency to show gaps that are a bit too noticeable for my tastes I wonder if the paint might be adding to the look in a negative way?
His armor extends to his pelvis but is made in such a way that you can still bend him which is nice.
What is less nice If how often his legs popped out of the socket, and the arms too a few times. It’s an easy fix, but got old real fast, you don’t expect that from a new figure.
I should also point out, that I broke a grip off of the large gun. I can’t say if this was weak material or my clumsiness, but I can say, be careful with yours either way!
Overall, I was not a fan of this figure. For the price I would expect the quality to be much better. It was even more frustrating when I was using him with the Power loader, which was a far superior toy. If it was half the price, maybe I would not be so bothered by it’s flaws, but at it’s price point it’s competing with some SH Figuarts and 6 inch Star Wars Black Series etc. Honestly though, even at a lower price, I think unless you are a die hard fan of this character it’s an easy pass.
