Zip Base Vol. 2 Repair Base

Beast Saga is a continuation of the series Battle Beasts (in North America) and Beast Formers in Japan.

Package comes in a nice clam shell so you can slip on and off (it’s a nice little touch for those who like to keep their packaging for storage or display). This is the Sixth Vehicle in the series.

Straight out of the box, Jipuroto is packaged in it’s cube form.

Unlike the previous versions in this series, the box transforms into a small fortress. This really harkens back to the old Beast Saga, Battle beast playsets.

Unfortunately I didn’t have any of those old playsets as a kid. But the idea of portable fortress that you can bring to a friend’s house has a certain appeal to it.

This playset harkens back to that old concept, with a few extra gimmicks the old version just never had.

And here it is with a quarter as reference for scale.

With a push button, this box transforms to a fortress. It’s simple, but satisfying to watch.

It even comes with a very small vehicle with in it.

On the left side, it has a moving platform that moves from left to right.

The bottom centre has a rotating turn style for the vehicle, and to the very right it has a platforming elevator.

There’s even a turret above and moving repair arms that sit above the vehicle.

The vehicle can launch out from it’s resting place (through friction ejection rather than spring. I imagine it’s due to lack of space to allow a full working mechanism. It works well enough, for the size, but it’s hard to execute, the button is stiff.)

The the three minifigure that are included is a Rhino, Gorilla and Wolf (Sorry I’m not familiar with the official names). They are pretty small, I’ve included another quarter for reference for size.

My final thought’s on this fortress, that it’s fun. Not the best in the series. I think it’s due to the lack of size. The Cube size is basically the same size as the vehicles in the series. But it doesn’t really feel big enough to be a fortress. It feels like it there should be more fortresses in the series that should combine to make a more impressive fortress. It has a lot of potential, unfortunately the series has finished without much fan fare. But if you’ve started collecting some of these, and enjoyed it like me, you’ll have to get these to finish up the set.
