Missile Tank Robo

Original MSRP: 45.99
Toy Number: MR-08

Missile Tank Robo is the Japanese name for Blaster, the Gobot. The Gobot toy was always a bit derpy with that shit-eating grin and toes that never seem to lock in place. But the toy was always cool, a cold-war era inspired missile defense tank.

Action Toys and Awaken Studio bring us this modern version as part of their Machine Robo: Revenge of Chronos line.

The box is pretty sweet, it’s got four sides and a top and bottom. Inside are contents.

Ok, i’m being glib, but honestly this toy rocks. It’s great. I’m falling in love with these new Machine Robo releases.

He stands 12cm tall in robot mode, and he’s fully poseable. As opposed to Shuttle Robo, Missile Tank Robo is packaged in robot mode so that’s where we will start.

In robot mode, the large missiles get attached to the arms, but there are many ways to display them. You can put them on the arms, or on the shoulders. Each missile has two slots that can be used, so you can choose which one best fits your fancy.

Missile Tank Robo also has a handgun, but that gun can be used to mount the missiles as a hand weapon, and that weapon can even be mounted on the back for even more options.

Transformation is fun, and echoes the original toy quite a bit. I appreciate all the tabs that allow the parts to lock into place. Some of them are so subtle you miss them the first time around. Check out the video for what I mean.

One detail I really like is the faux gear detailing on the inside of the torso, You are only going to see this during transformation, so it’s really not necessary, but I like the additional attention to detail.

If you stop about halfway you can make a GERWALK walker tank!

I also really like the way that the legs fold in together in a zig-zag fashion to form the tank treads. There’s some metal in here so it’s rather solid.

Once assembled, there’s storage for the gun underneath.

In tank mode, it’s nice and compact. The turrets rotate and move up and down. There’s no wheels molded into the treads though, which is unfortunate.

You can see the improvements over the original while still retaining the same basic design. They did a great job updating this to a modern style.

A stand is included, but it’s the same stand that comes with all the Machine Robo releases, so you can check it out on one of the other reviews I did.
