Misfire

Titans Return is officially over, and while I like Power of the Primes a lot so far, it probably won’t live up to its predecessor to me. Like any Transformers toy line, I’m never able to afford or keep up with all the releases I would like to, so I get many of them later, and one example of this is with the Decepticon Targetmasters. I’ve reviewed one before, Triggerhappy, whom I thought was a really amazing figure, so I’ve decided to seek out the other two and review them as well!

Misfire is as garishly late G1 as a Transformer can be, modeled in magenta and lavender with some red highlights, and I absolutely love how it all looks. In robot mode, he is just that, a very loud looking and wide character with Triggerhappy’s legs and a face sculpt that is just dripping with disapproval. I really like his lavender face and vibrant blue visor, and actually, the Titan Master itself is really well detailed. It actually looks like a real character, and not just two colors of plastic in the shape of a little guy and I really appreciate that.

Misfire’s accessories are pretty similar to Triggerhappy’s. They are dual laser rifles that look pretty different from Triggerhappy’s, but they function the same, as both can combine together to seat a titan master. One improvement these weapons make over Triggerhappy’s is that when combined, a third handle is formed so then he can actually hold it straight and not sideways.

As far as size goes, Misfire is a lot wider and buffer than Triggerhappy, but is still around his size. These two look so good together, I can’t wait to show off all three in my Slugslinger review.

Misfire’s transformation is both similar and different from Triggerhappy, but not quite as good. The legs Transform the same way, while the arms and wings just shift down and the cockpit gets folded out. It’s effective and solid, but just not as interesting as his Targetmaster colleague.

In Jet mode, he is pretty cybertonian/futuristic in design, and I really like that too. I don’t really like this design better than Triggerhappy, but Misfire reminds me of some Cobra jet released late into the Real American Hero line of GiJoes, which is pretty interesting for a Transformer. As stated before, Misfire’s legs are the same as Triggerhappy’s meaning that the back end of their jet modes is too. This really doesn’t bother me. Honestly, I kind of like it because it gives them a more unified design signifying that they’re a team. Of course, Misfire’s Titan Master can pilot his alt mode, and he looks suitably cool in there. I’m really going to miss the Titan Master integration in vehicle mode like this, I really love the idea of the vehicle modes having little pilots.

Overall, I really like Transformers Generations Titans Return Decepticon Misfire. He’s not the stand out surprise success that Triggerhappy was, but that doesn’t mean that he isn’t a very good deluxe figure, with an eye-catching color scheme, solid transformation, accessories, design, and with a Titan Master that actually has adequate detail for once, Misfire is one Decepticon sharpshooter you ironically shouldn’t miss.
