Mugen Calibur
The 1/55 Mugen Calibur is the toy that would be imported to the US as Roadbuster in the original Transformers line. The color changed a bit to a green and orange color scheme, but the toy essentially stayed the same.
This one stings, to be honest. As I look through these images of toys that I used to have but got rid of, this one pains me a lot. I don’t think I really had this all that long before I had to sell it again. I may have only taken it out to take these pictures, the auction pictures. I don’t want to even look at what one in this condition would cost me now.
But lets try to take a look at this for what it is, a beautiful toy, in a beautiful box. The Takatoku design here is on display at it’s finest. Look at all the mechanical details about scale with a nice combination of official looking logos and English text. And then… the box art itself. They don’t make them like this anymore folks.
For this toy, I didn’t apply any stickers, nor did I take any parts off the sprue. It’s about as clean as it gets.
Here it is, in all it’s beauty. What a perfect example of real-robot design. the Mugen Calibur is posed here without his armor.
The armor parts attach to cover the wheels in robot mode.
The transformation is not the smoothest, the legs get floppy and you have to remove all the extra armor. But the result is a solid vehicle mode that includes a pilot. The pilot shows the scale that this just isn’t a normal sized Jeep, this is a monster of a vehicle.
Wherever you are now, I hope that you are with someone that loves you, and that they take care of you.
