Baldas
MED-105 Baldas is another Machine Robo Devil Invader – toys specifically created to be “Bad Guys” to the standard Machine Robo figures, who had been factionless until this point. Baldas was released in the Gobots line in a different color scheme as Bladez.
What’s interesting about this figure is its unconventional and rather un-cohesive vehicle mode. It wasn’t until recently that I even knew what the proper form for both was, having only ever had them loose.
The head is one of the highlights of this figure, with a sort of wolf-like appearance.
In robot mode, the proper position of the wings are basically pointing backward, as opposed to proper wings out to the side. The detail on those wings are just awesome. The arms have always hung weird, not having the clearance to truly hang at the side.
Robot mode does not really come together for me. It feels like a robotic fox space ship. There are wheels so it can roll, and in the Machine Robo instructions, there is also a crawler mode.
Nothing really lines up with tabs or pegs or anything. Just get it by feel.
Here’s a comparison with the US Gobot Bladez and the Machine Robo Baldas. There’s a stark color difference but the mold is essentially the same. The only difference I can see is the different wheels. Note how the left leg on the US version is missing part of the mold behind the wheel.
