Brawn
This toy depicts Brawn as he appears in Transformers: The Movie, and is part of the Studio Series 86 collection. I don’t collect a lot of Studio Series figures, but I heard good things about him, so thought I would check him out.
The toy comes in one of those no-plastic packages, and fortunately nothing was stolen out of it. Some of the toys in this type of packaging get their heads popped off, but I can’t see that happening with this one.
The inner packaging unfolds to create a backdrop. It’s a nice touch, but I don’t have any room to display it like that.
Brawn is pretty blocky with tight joints. The head is very tight to turn.
The gun can be stored on the back.
Meaty.
Articulation is good. no complaints there. There are a few paint blemishes on the yellow that keep him from being perfect. Also there are these inserts around the wheel wells in the lower legs that are prone to popping off.
You can see the curved panel on the left leg in the picture below.
Truck mode is a nice homage to the original toy. Transformation is intricate with some suprising magic in the chest area. The Studio Series seems to go above and beyond to have interesting transformations. They also seem to use a better quality plastic.
I still don’t care for the big wheel pegs sticking out, I feel like there are better ways to accomplish this.
The side profile isn’t the best, due to lots of jointwork and some gaps where you can see the yellow inside the figure.
I don’t have any particular fondness to Brawn as a character, but I did have the original toy as a kid, so it’s a little nostalgic. I’m glad I got him.
