  • Megatron

Looks really awesome. Yeah, MP Megatron is an engineering marvel, but this is loaded with comic style goodness.

    Nice review, as always! :-)

  • That is a bummer about Danguard, definitely one of my favorites.

KMH is a great place and Yuki a wonderful guy. I try to buy all of my SOCs from him when possible. He will typically give me deals close to Ebay prices. Picked up a Fang of the Sun 1/72 Dougram brand new from him last time I was there for $70. Japanese packaging not US.

  • Gaiking

Hey, hey, c'mon...I got a review to write next week! LOL Seriously, I planned to do the Mattel and then Famosa Gaikings next... (Unfortunately, I don't have a Popy or Nacoral Gaiking, yet though.)

Nice call about the wings though. As an adult collector who really only displays my toys, I sometimes either forget or don't even realise which points are prone to breakage, simply because I treat them all very, very gently. Especially my Jumbos.

  • Daitarn would complete the Tomino Super Robot trifecta, I believe. (Ideon and Zambot being the other two.) Is there another SR that Tomino worked on? I'm only aware of the three. I'd like a Daitarn, though the best gimmick they could do with him would be sheer size and Metal content.

  • Macross Revoltech?

I hope they do an armored Valkyrie, personally. Oh how much that would rock.

  • Gaiking

The Mattel Shogun Warriors version of Gaiking had a jointed right elbow and a firing fist. Those were heavily modified from the Japanese release for the US market back in the late 70s. This new version is based on the original Japan Popy version, so it is a very different beast. The old Shogun Warriors version can be had on ebay for not too much money (relatively speaking).

  • Megatron

I think I still like the classic G1 Megatron better, for purely nostalgic reasons.

I was going to share a story here... but I will wait until I get a G1 to tell it...

  • Megatron

I like it. I've never seen a transforming Megatron that looked as killer as the cartoon version. Thus, I've never been interested in Megatron. This figure changes all that.

Anyway, transforming into a gun that shrinks down to be held by Starscream isn't the coolest. I'd never transform if that was all I could do, especially when my scope/arm-cannon is plenty powerful. amiright?!

  • I have heard that as long as leiji matsumoto is alive, we will never see a danguard SOC. I heard he has essentially disowned the series.

I was just at KMH last week and met Yuki for the first time. Great guy.

  • That would be sweet, I love Reideen. One of my favorites since I was little. I am excited to see what they do to him with the SOC treatment. Daidenjin would be cool as well. I also heard Daitarn? Anyway when are they going to take care of Danguard Ace, that is one I would love to see get the SOC styling. I live in the Bay Area (Northern California) and visit Kimono My House a lot. Yuki was telling me that the only thing that would hold up Bandai from doing Danguard is whether they have the rights are not to the series. I really hope they do.

  • Raideen!? Yeah! I'm a big fan of the design, though I only really relate to the Shogun Warriors version. (That is, I've never seen the anime) And Daltanius should be great. Lion-chests are universally bad to the bone.

  • Given the hints that were released, I think both Raideen and Daltanious are soon, possibly Daidenjin as well.

  • This is exciting news. I have also heard rumors that GX-38 in the SOC series is going to be Daltanious. Does anyone have any further info as to whether this is true or not?

  • Shin Getter 2

Antiquity gives Getter Robo some liberties, and I do like seeing them in action in the SRW games.

Getter Robo is like the Inspector Gadget of giant robots. Which isn't "bad", per se.

BTW, didn't Nagai Go's partner really define Getter Robo? I know Go is mostly credited with their creation, but I heard it was his assistant/protege who really ran with the series.

  • That Irongear looks like it might be fun, though I'm not really a fan of the Xabungle designs. That Dragonar, on the other hand...! I really had no idea about the SOC Special series until now. I gotta get a hold of an SPT Layzner and that Dragonar. Super cool.

  • Gaiking

The 70's Gaiking I had possessed a firing hand (it's right) that was also jointed.

I remember it being a lot sturdier than the new one. While I like the opening face I would have traded that for a firing hand. Though I seem to recall they were selling them after-market for some insane price)

I would also mention that the tabs on the wings can break off if handled improperly. I let my nephew play with this and right away, he broke the tabs clean off.

  • Cloud and Fenrir

i hated the figure of cloud for one very simple reason. just like the Auron figure from play arts, the groin/leg joint is so ridiculously brittle that it'll break off so easily, especially when trying to pose him on the stand which is so restrictive to the movement. but besides that, the detail is superb which makes up for the shoddy workmanship that play arts did.

  • Macross Revoltech?

Man, I would be so incredibly excited to see this. Ever since the Revoltech line came out, I have secretly been hoping they would do Robotech. I think that the mecha designs would translate really well to the Revoltech system. The thought of some really cool Valkyrie's, Zentradie battle pods, and Cyclone's is pretty amazing, not to mention all of the other possibilities. I just hopt that they do as good a job with covering the Macross/Robotech universe as they did with Evangelion.

I have to say, I have been incredibly impressed with the license diversity that the Revoltech line has shown to date (not to mention the way they get regular releases out). I don't have every figure, but I have 98% of what has been released so far. The combination of price, articulation, character selection, and quality has made these one of my all time favorite lines.

  • Shin Getter 2

The original Getter Robo series was one of the very first (if not THE first) appearance of the "combining robot" as we know it. Nagai Go probably wasn't thinking about technical feasibility or even engineering a toy that could actually gattai the way the character could in the show.

That said, both original shows (Getter Robo and Getter Robo G) were pretty DAMN fun...especially Getter Robo G, dubbed as "Starvengers" here in the Northeast US.

The later OVA's, though? Damn. Well...Shin Getter Robo, Shin Vs. Neo, and New Getter Robo were...well...slight departures from the feel of the original shows. "Convoluted, pseudo-intellectual, wanna-be metaphysical trainwrecks" is probably more like it. The characters were grittier and more interesting (like the original manga), but the plots rapidly decayed into unconclusive, unsatisfying messes (as is so unfortunately common in anime today).

  • Shin Getter 2

Getter Robo anything is kinda weird for me. I know most series take a lot of liberties with their transformations and such, but I prefer at least a little semblence of believability. When I look at the Getters, and know that they're supposed to be combiners, but I can hardly see any semblence of... "ship" in any of them...I just don't really get the appeal.

Don't get me wrong, I know there's some serious flaws with all Gettai robots. i just don't really like the leap you have to make for the Getters.

Good review, though. I love that Revoltech is providing affordable coolness.
