Super Formation!
Towards the end of Task 10 – “Bouken Red Disappears”, the Gougou Gattai DaiBouken was overwhelmed by a combined front of two leaders from Negative Syndicates in a pair of giant red Jaryuu Clan mecha. Wrapping the combined Sargess mecha in chains, they dragged DaiBouken (and Bouken Red still within the cockpit) to a desolate island; though the other four Boukenger were able to evacuate safely back to Sargess. In Task 11- “Decisive Battle on Desolation Island”, Bouken Red had to play hide-and-seek on the island from the search parties, and he took his Bouken Driver control console with him so that the two Negative Syndicate leaders couldn’t take control of DaiBouken. Discovering the plans the paired Negative Syndicate leaders had, he took a new valuable Precious from them, and attempted to escape in DaiBouken. Sensing that he would need backup, the other four Boukenger boarded the remaining auxiliary Gougou Vehicles, and used Gougou Drill to tunnel to the island. Taking the two giant Jaryuu Clan mecha by surprise, the nine Gougou Vehicles merge together for the first time to form the Chou Gougou Gattai Super DaiBouken.
Using the 14 wheels on the bottom of its feet, Super DaiBouken can speed along the ground- performing both its double-horned Cannonball Headbutt attack and the full power Double Arm Crash finisher. And if an enemy attempts to ambush it from behind, the right foot can discharge Hyper Concrete backwards from the concrete drum to disable them.
Super DaiBouken (back), like DaiBouken, takes some getting used to. Gougou Drill and Gougou Shovel return to act as the right and left, respectively, while Gougou Mixer and Gougou Crane extend and fold open to make the super combo’s feet. Gougou Formula & Gougou Gyro and Gougou Dozer & Gougou Marine Diver are reduced to aesthetics only, and serve no function other than to beef up the combo’s appearance. Gougou Crane’s double claws separate from the crane boom to for Super DaiBouken’s new double gold-horned helmet. This also reveals a smaller black ABS hook underneath on the end of the crane boom (which is a more useable hook that the double claws, in my opinion).
The rolling feature of the Super DaiBouken solves a problem that the much larger DX combination Gourai-Senpuujin from “Ninpuu Sentai Hurricanger” had. Whereas the legs on the Gourai-Senpuujin tilted outwards and made it difficult to roll it on the two rubber tractor treads, the Super DaiBouken has resistance at its heels to prevent it from casually sliding around, but not enough to prevent it from rolling altogether; it’s a better solution. Also, because of the DX DaiBouken’s extraordinarily flexible knees & hips, a new- if limited- number of poses can be reached. The arms of Super Daibouken are arranged exactly the same as they are in the Buster form of DaiBouken Drill and Shovel, so there’s no loss of motion to them. The Wall Shoot attack used by DaiBouken Mixer can be used as a defensive maneuver to take enemies sneaking up on it by surprise. Additionally, since DaiBouken’s head is required to spin around for the super combo, Super DaiBouken’s head can turn as well. Hidden in plain view the whole time is Super DaiBouken’s front torso, which was actually DaiBouken’s back, hidden by Gougou Gyro.
I’ve already given my recommendations for DX DaiBouken and the four Gougou Gattai Vehicles in the other reviews, so there’s no need to here. For the overall appearance, it’s difficult to swallow, but the functions of each put together help that out a little, and make getting the DX toys to make the Chou Gougou Gattai Super DaiBouken worthwhile.
