Star Wars was a heavy focus this year with the upcoming Clone wars cartoon series with more than a few surprises in store for jaded collectors. Including being assulted by the Dark Lord of the Sith.
Mighty Muggs is Hasbro’s take on the designer vinyl thing but without the pretentiousness and price tag.
Galactic Buddies continues to prove a popular line by adding larger scale vehicles into the line this year. They are re-releasing the Millennium Falcon from this line.
Star Wars Transformers too had some new showings there. Highlight was the Jedi Starfighter with Hyperdrive Ring that turned into Obi-Wan.
Titaniums - No Battlestar Titaniums on display.
Unleashed (battle Packs) - They will continue the smaller unleashed line, but the large one is discontinued.
Action Figures (as in the classic 3 3/4 kind) was where most of Hasbro’s attention went and while there are some great figures coming, the show stealer was definitely the humongous AT-TE.
There will be two different promotions with figures this year. Droid Factory will be a series of droid parts packed in to the 30 figures released making for 7 new droids to build and collect. Each buildable droid will be new to the Star Wars toy line.
Battle Packs appeared to be repacked speederbikes with Troopers. Saw a set of BARC speeders and the classic speeder design, both with a white paint scheme.
The other promotion is an old school mail in for Clone War’s new character Captain Rex. Collect the proof of purchase of 5 figures, mail them in and you get a shiny new figure before the cartoon hits the airwaves. Kind of like a certain bounty hunter when I was a kid. The packaging will feature a fold down diorama on the back, similar to the expanded universe figures. This packaging will only be on this mail-away.
More comic two packs are slated for release this year including characters from some of the newer Star Wars Comics like Cade Skywalker and the Imperial Jedi from the comic series Legacy.
They are releasing more comic 2-packs from the old marvel comics, focusing on the Mandalorians.
More additions to the three pack Evolutions line.
For vehicles we had a new clone shuttle, spider droid, and a walker.
But the real show stealer was the AT-TE. Behold the first $100 toy from the Star Wars line in many years. Measuring two feet long, the AT-TE can transport an amazing 20 clone troopers and is packed with galactic sounds and firing features.
- Roleplay
Honestly there was so much Star Wars going on I can’t begin to explain it all.
