Snake Eyes

Yo Joe! G.I. Joe has gone through a reboot and it doesn’t suck. G.I. Joe Sigma 6 is the latest incarnation of the line with a mix of classic G.I. Joe and Japanese anime. Cobra has taken to using a mechanized army and the Joe’s have created a new task force designated Sigma 6, whose sole function is to stop Cobra’s every move using a mix of tech that looks like stuff out of Halo and Aliens meets MASK. The series is animated by Gonzo, the studio responsible for the extraordinary series Hellsing.

The line consists of two branches, a larger scale 8-inch figures and smaller scale Mission Sets that include vehicles and 2.5-inch figures. This is my review of the first 8 inches I’ve gotten from the line, Snake Eyes. He was my very first figure when the 3.5-inch line launched in 1982 so I made him my first purchase in 2006.

The figure is well articulated with 15 points of articulation. Hands, feet and head are all on durable ball sockets. Joints on the rest of the body are in the usual spots but also include a twisting waist and chest that pivots forward and back. All are tight and snug but do not feel as if they will break. This feels like a nice solid figure that is not going to break.

Paint detail is nice and tight and shows no overspray. The eyes are painted on clearly and neatly. The metal dog tag, cloth harness with actual working clips and opening arm communicator are nice touches.

All figures come with accessory holes to attach the various items in a variety of ways, which brings me to my one nitpick which is that the two sheaths cannot be put on the figure crossing to replicate the more classic Snake Eyes look.

Snake Eyes is equipped with a ton of cool accessories extending the playability of a great toy. One nice touch is the top and bottom of the package combine together to form a locker for the accessories.

He comes with 2 swords with sheaths, 1 short sword with sheath, Uzi Machine Gun with removable clip, 3 clip on visors (classic Snake Eyes look, night vision and a gas mask), 2 suction cup hand clips (to climb the walls ninja style), 1 whip star (a magnetic grappling hook/throwing star with cable attached), and 1 zip line bar to ride along the whip star cable.

All and all I would have to say this is a very sharp figure. At 14.99 a pop there’s a lot of playability and bang for your buck. I may not be buying the whole line but I do plan on adding more to my shelf.
