Ice Sword
Joytoy is a reasonably new company (2015) out of China specializing in 1:18 scale figures. In addition to Warhammer, they have their own original IP. One such IP is Battle for the Stars, and from that is this character, Ice Sword. I know nothing about the story, as this was a gift from a good friend, but it looks super cool.
Packaging is nice, with a velco-secured flap cover with a window on the inside showing all the parts.
There are a lot of parts for a figure of this size. 1:18 scale is about 4 inches tall, so right around the same as your average Star Wars or G.I. Joe figure. But there’s a lot more going on here than with one of those. Not only do you get variant hands and weapons, but most of the armor is removable! With the figure at this size I decided not to remove any of it, but it’s nice to know you can!
The first thing you notice is the tremendous amount of detail, both sculpted and painted. The face detail is amazing.
Fully armored, he looks like a futuristic centurion. The helmet fits over the head but does not seem oversized, the shield clips on the arm, and there is a clip on the belt for the sword or any of the guns. Hands can be popped out and replaced but the tiny ball joints tend to come out from the arm as opposed to staying put when you pull the hands off. The hands, like the armor, are made of a softer pvc and are pliable.
The sword is a harder plastic so it stays rigid. It can be held with one or both hands, or in the holster.
Three guns are included.
Articulation is nuts. Ball jointed neck, ab crunch, swivel waist, ball jointed shoulders, double jointed elbows, ball jointed wrist, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, double jointed knees, ball jointed ankles and hinged toes. All in a 4″ figure, with removable armor, with multiple accessories, for about $30. And as a bonus – it’s quality construction! Nothing feel fragile and the whole toy is very playable.
But the real draw of Joytoy? They also make MECHS. More on that soon…
