Arcadia Libird

The Arcadia Lybird comes from the game / manga / anime Cho Soku Henkei Gyrozetter. It’s not in the U.S. (yet) so all you need to know is it involves cars that transform into robots and vice-versa.

Sega and Bandai have teamed up to produce a small line of toys from the series including both small and large cars. While the toys themselves are not remarkable, I am always curious about another company’s take on a transforming robot idea.

The Arcadie Lybird is the hero robot of the series. It comes packaged in an attractive blister package that is collector friendly. Considering that this line is for kids, it’s an odd choice but appreciated by collectors.

As part of the Morphin Minicar Series (MM-10) the toy is about the size of your standard HotWheels or Matchbox car. 

It’s got smooth lines and a very toy-like finish. The whole thing is molded in red with small, detailed paint applications.

Transformation is about as simple as it gets. Still, unlike the small Transformer minicars, there’s a pretty nice robot form inside the shell.

There’s not much articulation. The arms swivel, the hips are on ball joints and the knees bend. Due to the nature of the feet being stuck inside the shell of the car, it can only stand when propped up against the windshield folded around back.

You can remove the windshield panel – not sure if this is by design or not, but it makes for a cleaner robot mode.

This is a typical inexpensive kids toy from Japan. It’s no-frills, drop in your pocket toy that won’t break the bank.
