Lego 70817

Original MSRP: 9.99
Toy Number: 70817

Released as one of only three The Lego Movie sets for the 2015 Winter Wave, Batman and Super Angry Kitty Attack is more of a figure pack than a traditional building set. With 115 pieces, this fantastic set includes two popular characters previously only available in much more expensive sets along with a Skeletron and Micro Manager to for good measure.

The set comes in three bags along with the instructions and a package for Batman’s cape.

The build is quick and simple, there aren’t any fancy advanced techniques used and you could probably build the set without instructions if you really wanted to. For such a small set, there are a good number of extra parts leftover. As this isn’t a more traditional set with a structure or vehicle, the Micro Manager comprises of most of the pieces. I guess you could consider the Micro Manager as the playset element but I consider it more of a brick built figure.

The Skeletron is the same one included in pervious sets and comes with the same gun that the Robot SWAT members use. I’m still not a big fan of the current the droid arms used on skeletons and miss the old floppy ones from back in the day.

Batman comes with an awesome brick built grappling hook gun and two Batarangs. If you’ve owned any version of a Lego Batman minifigure, the head works the same where Bruce Wayne’s ‘hair’ becomes the eyes of the cowl. While the body has been used previously in the DC sets, this particular head is only available with this set.

Super Angry Unikitty is probably the reason most people are buying this set. While the normal Angry Unikitty was available with Emmett’s Construction Mech, Super Angry Kitty is exclusive to this set and is also the cheapest set to include any Unikitty figure.

The largest part of this set, the Micro Manager is just another variation of the boxy robots seen in the movie. This particular version uses the annoying flick fire missiles for the two bottom eyes, which can be fired by pushing the two rods on the back. The top can also pop off by pressing down on the lever. The play features kind of take away from the nice square design of the Micro Managers and those stupid flick fire missiles don’t fire more than a few inches anyways.

At only ten dollars, I would recommend everyone buy this set. 115 pieces comes to 11.5 cents per piece, which is higher than the average over the past few years and you get two exclusive minifigures. I really adore this set and will probably end up buying another and so should you.
