Boss Borot 1901 (Silver Version)

Original MSRP: 19,800

Continuing my reviews of different versions of earlier reviewed items to both re-showcase the Chogokin, and also allow me to compare old photography vs. new. I did a review of the color version of this release in 2009. They both have the same major and freaky issue, but in this silver version it seems to fit and make sense.

As with all Fewture EX Gokin releases it comes in a brown shipping box, sleeved black product box, and nicely designed Styrofoam tray.

When taken out of plastic baggies and tray, you have Boss Borot, two claws, spiked mace w/chain, sledge hammer, stand, and, of course, a removable head.

I bought this brand new and sealed, and exactly like the color version… it had RUST!!!!. It should be noted I bought a silver version in 2008 and it had no rust, so it is possible to not have this issue. While being sealed and with no apparent water damage, it seems a mystery. With some deductive reasoning it became clear. The tape was browned and shrunk as if exposed to extreme heat… the tape was gummy not brittle… meaning heat that was very humid not dry.

Even the inner box itself had rippling from heat.

The result was when you sliced open the factory tape and unwrapped a Chogokin never touched by a buyer, there was rust on the chrome screws and posts.

If you check the Fewture site, you can see the rust is NOT by design on the center posts. I state that because part of the silver version aesthetic is that all designed rivets or edges have a rust aspect to them.

Rust is the a nightmare for all collectors… but with this guy, it seems to fit.

The size is pretty good, but seems shorter than most other Fewture EX Gokin.

Boss inside spins and, of course, the head also moves. Another cool feature is extendible eyes, that add that needed “googly” look from the cartoon.

Boss’s cohorts Mucha and Nuke are in the belly of Boss Borot, and for some reason they are wearing the same colored shirts as the colored version (Boss is wearing a silver shirt, but an orange one in the colored version).

Pegs at the end of the arms hold the “Lost in Space”like claws, menacing sledge hammer, or and formidable mace. I do love Fewture and how scary/bad a$$ they redo iconic super robots….Fewture Borot with these weapons, I can’t imagine him doing anything other than dominating his foes.

The stand works by taking a small peg out and then screwing in the stand’s arm.

The knee joints have a ratchet mechanism, and the feet tilt well.

The look of the guy is lumbering but poses pretty well and has a great look.

I literally bought, sold, bought, hated, sold, and finally bought this again. Nevertheless, doing this review I grew to really like this baby. Maybe the rust fitting the look of the silver version helped.

I can’t recommend him for the perfectionist or at his MSRP or greater. If you can get cheap and on sale like i did (coupled with the rust credit was nice), I say go grab him and Doublas. They hold a pose well, look cool, and make silver and rust look good.
