Burn! Robocon
I’ve always appreciated the time just when Bandai decided to create a collectors division. Tamashii Nations wouldn’t become a thing for another few years, but in 1999 there were a lot of great releases that didn’t know if they wanted to be toys or collectables. Soul of Chogokin had just started, but the actual Chogokin line was still going strong, and still basically aimed at kids.
Burn! Robocon (Moeru Robocon) was a 1999 remake of the original Robocon where they gave Robocon some thick-ass hips. However, aside from that he was basically the same.
Robocon is a big beefy hunk of metal. His body, arms, legs, feet, nearly everything – all metal. As these pictures were taken while preparing him for sale, I didn’t attach the antenna.
The arms move up and down and are slightly bendy, like the original. the claws open and close, the legs move back and forth, and the feet have wheels on them.

The chest flips up to reveal Robocon’s inner workings. The image in the middle is a lenticular image that changes depending on what angle you look at it.
Robocon has several different eyes that can be changed by turning the dial on his back.
Like the original, Robocon can turn into vehicle mode. Pull the front wheels down (with real rubber tires), rotate the feet and bend them back, you are good to go.
Robocon’s helicopter mode has been modernized by a jet heli attachment.
