Cosmos
Cosmos was the hardest to find release from the Velocitron Speedia 500 Collection Legacy sub-line. Released in 2022, Cosmos was shipped only one per case, and was a WalMart exclusive.
It wasn’t until 2023 that the Velocitron wave started appearing at ROSS and Ollie’s stores. These once elusive figures had finally arrived for much lower than retail. As I don’t have either of those stores in my area, I relied on the generosity of friend and fellow collector to acquire one. It was worth the wait.
The packaging, while attractive, is flimsy and not collector friendly. I like to save my boxes, often to store the figures back in after display. The lack of plastic window makes this useless for me.
Out of the box, in UFO mode, Cosmos is pretty chunky, and much larger than I expected. It’s certainly the largest Cosmos I’ve owned.
In UFO mode, it can store the weapon and flag on the back of the figure, or the weapon can attach to either of the two 5mm ports on the side.
There’s also a smaller port that is for use with various display stands. (shown here is a Tamashii Stand)
Transformation is interesting and not too difficult, however I found that I kept popping the small back tail part off during the process. The legs pull out and apart, the arms section pulls back and rotates 180 on a pin then clips into the top of the barrel of the UFO. The entire top of the UFO flips over to reveal the head.
Robot mode is fantastic, with great proportions and bright colors.
It has all the articulation you would expect from modern Transformers, and can hold dynamic poses well.
The gun can be held in either hand, but also serves as the handle for the racing finish line flag. The flag is checkered on one side and white on the other (white in racing indicates the final lap).
He’s quite big compared to previous Cosmos’s.
