Cure Melody

Suite Precure is the seventh entry to the Precure series. As the name implies, the show has a musical theme, pitting the magical girls fighting for Major Land against the villains of Minor Land and the monsters they summon each week. The main heroine Cure Melody finally has a long-overdue web-exclusive S.H. Figuarts release.

Unlike most web exclusives, the box retains a clear window on the front.

Cure Melody comes with three alternate faces and a custom Tamashii display stand. There are also seven hands with a tree to keep them on, as well as one more so Melody and her partner Cure Rhythm can hold hands. Her signature weapon, the Miracle Belltier, comes with an extra half. There’s an alternate immobile neck joint, because the weight of the hair will probably start to wear down the normal one after a while. Last but not least, a figure of the series mascot, the cupcake-eating cat Hummy, is included.

Hummy is well-detailed, especially for something not even an inch tall. There’s a single point of articulation at the neck so she can turn her head.

Melody’s articulation is great at the elbows and knees, but limited at the shoulders and hips because of all the ruffles. There’s plenty of range of motion most everywhere else, including rotating joints at the base of the twintails.

Cure Melody comes with a face for every occasion, so long as those occasions are either happy ones or fighting ones.

As you’d expect from an S.H. Figuarts, Melody can pull off all her trademark poses with ease.

The included Tamashii Stage can also give her enough of a boost for midair battling.

As mentioned before, Melody’s trademark Miracle Belltier finisher comes with three parts: one with a peg that can connect into the other two, so that it can be displayed joined or split.

The Fairy Tones placed in each half of the Belltier are solid color without any detail, but they’re so small that it’s hard to find fault with that. They’re much more loosely inserted than I’d like; especially when they’re nearly impossible to find if they fall out.

Cure Melody is the first addition to my collection from Precure, and while she’s not perfect she’s still a great toy. If you’re a big enough fan of Suite Precure that you can justify paying aftermarket web exclusive prices, I’d definitely recommend this release; especially with Cure Rhythm’s release next month and (hopefully) the rest of the team to follow.
