Doc & Exo Suit

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Fisher Price’s Imaginext line is one of the best designed actual toy lines out there. You know, for kids. Each time I am in the toy aisle I make a point to check out the amazing designs in this line. I bought a lot of it when my kids were younger, and I’m tempted to bring some home each time I see them. Unfortunately, most of the items sort of clash with the other things in my collection and I decide against it.

This one however, I could not ignore.

It’s a powered suit. With chrome. With clear parts. With a pilot. That shoots a projectile. With a dinosaur.

Hello? Did someone travel back in time to when I was 6 and ask me exactly what I wanted in a toy?

As I mentioned before, this is part of the Imaginext Line, by Fisher Price (the kiddie brand of Mattel).  The Imaginext brands have different themes (Pirates, Dinosaurs, Space etc..) but all work together and all feel at home in the same toybox.

Doc with Exo Suit comes in a nice open package so kids can actually touch and feel the product before buying.  And at $11.00 USD it’s hard to say no to this.

The set comes with the Exo Suit, Doc figure, helmet, 2 shooting discs and a Pterodactyl.

The Exo Suit is all kinds of awesome. The proportions are neither too simple nor too complex.  It feels like it could work as an industrial machine.

The arms and legs are a clear sturdy plastic. The whole thing is super-rugged so any kid can play with this. The arms and legs have a nice gear motif to the detail. The clear yellow is gorgeous.

Each joint is mildly ratcheted. Joints are at the shoulders, hips and ankles.        

Also, the claws open and close.

Overall, you can get some good poses out of it.

The Doc figure is nothing special – I wish It had more sculpted detail but I understand it’s a basic figure for kids. But it really gets awesome when you add the clear mask. The mask reminds me a lot of the later M.A.S.K. figures with clear masks.

Of course the beautiful chrome cockpit opens, and the figure fits snugly inside. It’s a little dark in there so you cannot really see Doc inside the windows.

The disc shooter is embedded in the abdomen. Click the disc in the middle and the button pops out the back. Push the button and the disc flies out with surprising force.

Then there is the Pterodactyl. Why a dinosaur? Why not? I don’t know if it’s intentional, but the claw of the Pterodactyl fits snugly over the hinge for the cockpit. He can also be grabbed with the claws.

Dinosaur + Robot = Love.
