Mazinger 1901-Doublas (Silver Version)

Original MSRP: 19,800

Doublas (シルバーカラーver.) came in a group set with Boss Borot (シルバーver.) Unfortunately, he came with the same rust/heat damage issues.

It is a release of the EX-Gokin line, but I was told it was designed by a different person, which makes sense. While it has the same box and packaging , it does not have the same feel or die-cast content. 100_0922 100_0923 100_0924

As with the Borot I reviewed, Doublas came with rust on some chrome screws. The Borot review had pictures of brown tape and rippled box; Doublas packaging had the same issues and also some mold damage inside box. Documenting the same sealed storage in a hot and humid climate, let’s hope it is not some contagion like spore that I will die from!

The rust was mainly on the chrome screws, so I used WD40 to hinder it or paint to hide it. The rust aesthetic is there but less pronounce than on Borot, so painting was necessary on some key screws (ones that held the back joint).

The rust aspects of some other screws (in the moving feet) I decided to leave for now.

When I took out of packaging, I HATED it. Too much plastic, frozen necks (none of the SOC’s wonderful articulation), and a weird look.

Just like the Borot I reviewed, the more I fiddled with it, the more it grew on me. I handled it at first with animosity, BUT as it held a position and did strange weird posses… my anger changed to like and then even enjoyment.

It comes with two claws (the fingers move independently and digits have a flat, blade-like look), rotating drill, and spinning saw blade. All plastic, but cool looking. You slide them over the arm pegs. They don’t lock in, but stay on well. [

The tail in the back moves and the back splits open to show the pilot (a funky disco/modern version of Baron Ashura)

The size again is around ten inches. Smaller in look and feel than the Getters by Fewture and is addicted/very protective of his TAB… go figure?.

The static necks are a huge minus, but a ratchet mechanism at the base of the necks allows you to tilt them from side to side and the heads swivel pretty well.

The stand is just like from Borot with screws in the back.

All metal feet are individually moving and the ratchet knee joints hold nicely. 100_0966 100_0968

The cool thing is that Doublas is so light, the stand enables him to do even crazier and “dancin” moves.

Like Borot, if on clearance or for a cheap final price, grab him. If you see for the original MSRP or even more…. take a wide berth. Am I glad I own this?

I sold three times, but after this review…I like it…go figure?
