Droid Factory (Obi-Wan Kenobi Set)
Disney’s been doing their own Droid Factory line for a while now. You used to be able to build your own, but now they are only pre-built, either on their own, or in sets.
This set is themed about droids from the Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney+. It was available in the Disney parks or through shopdisney.com.
Four droids are included in the set.
R3-T2
This Astromech droid was seen breifly in the background of A New Hope in 1977, and again in Kenobi. He’s your standard astromech with removable dome and limbs.
NED-B
This droid can’t talk for some reason, but he was ready to beat down the empire to protect Obi-Wan. He’s pretty well articulated with joints at the head, shoulders, hands, elbows, chest, hips, knees and feet. Each limb is removable and the whole figure is a bit loose, specifically at the chest joint. A big omission here is his hammer accessory.
VIPER PROBE DROID
Probe droids are great, but this one feels undersized. Did they have smaller probe droids? Have I just been too influenced by the size of the old Kenner one? Who knows. It’s got a rotating head and all of the arms are articulated. A few like to fall off when handling, so be aware. They just push back in. It does come with a nice stand.
1-JAC
This figure was my reason for getting this set, and it’s kind of a dissapointment. I love 4-LOM, and while it has been said that 1-JAC is not 4-LOM, it’s the same droid type. He’s a bit small, but the real issue is that his guns are not removable from his hips! Articulation is kind of wonky but fine for the size of the figure. He also looks knock-kneed when standing in a neutral pose. Let’s hope for a proper Vintage Collection release for this one.
Anyway, I have mixed feelings about this set. I love the idea of Disney making all kinds of obscure droids for this line, and for that reason, I’ll probably get more. I just wish the figures were a little better…
