Gordam Dragon
The ES Gokin line by Fewture is a series of Super Deform-styled robots from a variety of series, made of hard plastic and diecast. The release schedule has been hectic, with lots of delays, but the toys seem very cool, and tons of characters have been announced.
I still do not know anything about Gordam since reviewing the robot, but he seems like a fine fellow. Fewture has continued his neatness by releasing a set of accessories to transform Gordam the robot into Gordam the Dragon.
Gordam Dragon comes in a slick box just like the robot before it, with sharp graphics and photos of the toy. Inside is a multi-level vacuum-formed tray that holds the four Dragon parts and a stand that comes with a display arm, extension piece, and base-interlocking piece for putting multiple stands together.
The directions show off all there is to see.
The contents of this box may seem sparse, but keep in mind this set also only costs $28. For Japanese robot goodness, and with the Dollar how it is, that’s not bad at all, especially for this level of quality.
Each of the four Dragon parts is sharply molded in plastic with a matte finish and crisp, flawless paint work. The head and flippers have magnets to attach to Gordam, while the tail has two clips. Transformation is fun. The ear pieces on Gordam’s head even spring-load in to fit the inside of the tail. Shown with Gordam, the combination of the two boxes make for a colorful package.
Here you can see the pair of toys post-transformation. One thing you will notice from these two pictures is that you cannot have a functional Dragon and Gordam at the same time, since the core block from Gordam makes the core block of the Dragon. Anime accurate, but toy annoying.
The Dragon fits together cleanly and looks fun. The magnets are not strong enough to hold the toy by the head, but since the Dragon parts are all plastic, the toy stays together fine when holding it from the middle.
The Gordam Dragon is a fun, colorful toy. It looks great flying or swimming along on the stand.
The mouth opens to reveal some missiles. Always handy.
The periscope also turns. Between that and the mouth, that’s all the articulation there is for the Dragon.
Gordam Dragon looks great, and makes for a fun add-on for your Gordam, who you may be getting bored of since he came out way back in 2010. The fact that you can only either have Gordam or the Dragon assembled at once seems weird to me, though. I like that they are offered separately, since then you can get Gordam on its own for less. At the same time, since they are individually boxed, I almost would have rather the Dragon cost $50 and come with a second torso block. The main complaint I have against toys with many accessories is the inability to use them all at once, and this set suffers from that exact problem. If you are a fan, though, they look great and feel good in your hands. For a 70’s super robot all of five people probably care about, less than a hundred bucks for both toys is tough to beat.
