Hatched from a red egg, Fireptile is a Plains Dragon who is quite adept at digging holes and elaborate tunnels for ground warfare.

Build Fireptile in a zap with this 13-piece set that comes with the warrior Stielburn and the Glacyr Plasma Krystal, which lights up and drips a light yellow liquid.

Includes collector card and CD-ROM detailing the Dragons legend and filled with games, toy animations and more… (Megabloks.com)

When it comes to play value, not many companies can compare with Mega Bloks. My sons and I have a blast playing with these Dragons figures. We actually bought all of the first series Dragons, and now have a good assortment of the new figures.

Packaging

These toys have some intricate packaging for a low-cost toy. The chiseled packaging features a clear window that displays the dragons egg and a figure. You can push in the emblem on the front which lights up the front of the egg in a red glow. The egg pops out at the top to give the packaging more impact.

Added Value

When you open the package, you can see that you are getting a lot more than just a toy here. Each Dragons toy includes not only a dragon and a figure, but it also includes a CD-ROM game as well as a thick embossed trading card. The card is coated in a metallic finish, and has stats about the Dragon you purchased.

Unleash the dragon

The Dragons egg is taped shut. Once all the tape is removed the egg opens to reveal many bagged parts. In total there are 13 pieces. The Dragons head is secured against the window of the egg by a plastic tray. The window is a thin flexible rubber that is somewhat translucent. The head pressed against the window gives the impression of the Dragon trying to escape.

Some Assembly Required

Assembling the Dragon is very easy and intuitive. Instructions are included for children to follow, but adults will have no problem. The only tricky area is securing the top of the head to the jaw assembly. The pegs only fit in a certain way, and it is not clearly defined. My son has to have me put it back together each time he takes it apart. The arms, legs and wings all snap in easily. All of the limbs of the Dragons are compatible with other dragons in the series, so if you have a few you can make some interesting combinations.

Where are the Blocks?

Despite carrying the Mega Bloks name, these Dragons don’t seem to be able to interact with any of the Mega Bloks building blocks. The only interaction is on the dragons back – there are two pegs that can be grabbed by the small figure. This figure can interact with the other block playsets, but there are no block connection points on the dragon. The first series dragons had one set of connection points on the backs of the dragons.

Take to the sky

Once assembled, the Dragon is a magnificent creature. You can remove the “Plasma Krystal” from the front of the egg and attach it to the chest of the dragon. Pressing on the crystal activates lights on the front of the dragon. First the top yellow light activates and then it slowly fades as the lower red light begins to glow. In addition, the Plasma Krystal is filled with a green plasma fluid. Turning the crystal upside-down  will let the plasma slowly drip from the top to the bottom.

Fireptile

This toy is a fantastic value. It is loaded with play value, looks great, and fun to build. I have to admit, as a parent who is a collector, these are some of the nicer looking toys made for my sons age group, and would look as great on my shelf as it does in his toy box.
