Funny Game Hikkurikaeru

Funny Game Hikkurikaeru “Turn Over Frog” (おもしろいゲーム ひっくりかえる) is a game made by Takatoku in the early 80s. This game made it’s way to a friends home when he lived as a child in Lebanon, and this is the EXACT TOY he had as a kid. I asked him to bring something over I had never seen before, and he delivered!

The idea of the game is to use the catapult to launch metal balls into the mouth of your frog. Once enough balls are loaded into your frog, it tips over and walks forward one step. First to make it step 5 times, wins! There are pegs that you can use to mark how many flips you have (not shown in images). The metal balls are long gone, but marbles can be used as substitution.

Takatoku released a second, smaller version of this game, Funny Game Jr Kuru Kuru Kaeru (おもろいゲーム　ジュニア版 くるくるかえる), which translates to “Round and Round Frog”)
