Granite
Granite is one of the “Good” Rock Lords, apparently a “Gentle Giant” according to his file card. I like that Tonka gave them archetypal personalities that even children could easily relate to.
This is the US version of “Gutsrock” the Japanese Rock Lord. The Japanese version has a slightly darker color scheme, and much cooler packaging.
The toy was sold on a blister card in the US, with colorful art and data about the character on the back.
Rank: Good Rock Lords
Body Type: Granite
Weapon: T-Gun
Bio: A happy-go-lucky rock with a ready laugh, Granite is truly a “gentle giant”. But put him in the thick of the fight and he’s one of the most fearsome combatants on the battlefield. Despite its ordinary appearance, the T-Gun’s shiny bullets will pierce anything and that’s enough to send any evil rock running for cover!
Granite’s robot form is reminiscent of an ape made out of rock. He’s got minimal articulation.
The figure holds the T-Gun in the right hand via a peg in the palm.
Transformation into rock is pretty cool actually. The head slides down into the body via a hidden sliding tab on the front, and the arms fold over. The fingers are positioned in such a way that they interlock together on top.
Granite is another cool unappreciated toy in the Gobots / Machinerobo family. Hopefully I can grab a Japanese release one of these days.
