Crucified Predator
Not only have I not seen 2010’s “Predators”, but until doing research for this film, I had it confused with the 2018 movie “The Predator”. So I won’t be able to go into the nuts and bolts about how accurate the Crucified Predator is. What I am going to comment on is the toy itself, and changes Hiya toys has made for this release.
The box is similar to others in the Exquisite Mini line, no surprises there.
Apparently the Crucified Predator was modeled on the Classic Predator from the original movie. Wikipedia lists him as Classic Predator, so I’m not even sure if it’s 100% the same character. Ah well. Regardless, Crucified Predator uses a new body style with new joints that we’ll go over here. Overall it’s an improvement over their previous body style.
Paint and detail are great as always. For accessories it comes with a baseplate, 2 baseplate connectors, two variant hands, and a damaged face mask. The face mask cannot be worn.
Here is one of the improvements made on the figure, the new double joint system. This allows internal double joints without having peg holes on the outer parts of the figure. The system has what looks like brass rivets for the two joints, and each ends in a peg that inserts into the arm. There are some problems.
Note in the above picture how exposed the joint is. While this allows a full range of motion, its rather exposed, trading the unsightly peg holes for unsightly brass holes. The other joint goes farther into the arm, but then limits the range of motion. I’m not sure which one is correct. I believe the cut part on the bicep was not cut deep enough to allow full motion, and thus the left arm is correct.
Also – moving these for the first time had tiny paint chips flying off the joint, so keep an eye out for that.
The knees also have new double joints using the same brass rings. These are hidden better, but a curious thing happens. Doing a knee crunch is great with a wide range of motion, but returning the leg to a neutral position is a problem as the top edge of the knee gets caught on the front of the thigh. You’ve got to wiggle it around to get it back in. Also, paint chips on back of joint.
Still, it’s a good looking figure. The ankles are a bit better, but still now swivel, so you still really can’t get good dynamic poses that stand on their own.
Other improvements are a swivel waist and swivel biceps.
