Horse Orphnoch

One thing that the SIC Kiwami Tamashii line has been pretty good at doing is making sure that designs other than just the main Kamen Riders makes it into the line. They released not only all of the main Imagin designs from Kamen Rider Den-O, but also several of the Orphnochs from Kamen Rider Faiz; one of them being the Horse Orphnoch.

The Horse Orphnoch is one of the first monsters you see in Kamen Rider Faiz and is a guy whose life pretty much sucks. And that’s about all the back story you need to know for the sake of this review.

The Orphnochs were a pretty interesting risk as far as monster designs go. They all shared a uniform color scheme of being entirely gray. Though the aesthetic does not work for everyone, I am quite fond of these designs as they remind me of stone statues that have come to life. And this figure does an excellent job of mimicking that. The grey paint really picks out all of the sculpted details that cover the suit and the simple black wash helps make those details pop all the more.

It surprised me to find that even the details on the bottom of his skirt armor were even painted!

The Horse Orphnoch has a decent range of articulation that allows for most poses to be pulled off without any difficulty. However as a giant monster, he is slightly bulkier than other figures in the line so some joints do not have as wide of a range due to sculpted detail, especially his ankles. However a little bit of fiddling and twisting can fix those problems and help you maintain the pose you desire.

The Horse Orphnoch doesn’t come with a lot of accessories, but has enough to accomplish everything he needs to. The first is a set of alternate calmly opened hands. These usually stay in the box for me.

His next is one open hand for holding things, along with a huge sword to put in it. I love the details on this sword and just how chunky it is.

His last accessory is a hand permanently holding his shield. Despite being in a fixed pose, it is still able to be well posed thanks to its ball jointed connection at the wrist.

Between his sword and shield, the Horse Orphnoch is a well armed dude and a pretty impressive piece for its small size.

Compared to your average SIC Kiwami Tamashii figure, the Horse Orphnoch is a little bit bigger, and a little bit taller. It’s perfect for a monster that a Kamen Rider would need to fight against and works out pretty well.

I think a lot of people skipped on this figure because of either a dislike of Kamen Rider Faiz or just a general disinterest in monster designs. Despite that it is another solid figure in the SIC Kiwami Tamashii line. Plus because of its similarity in size compared to 3 3/4” and 4” figures, it makes an excellent just generic horse monster villain. Something worth considering if your superheroes need more bad guys to fight against.
