Huffer
Years ago I reviewed the original Huffer, noting that he was the first Transformer I ever laid my eyes on. As such, Huffer has always held a special place in my heart. Of course, when he was announced for the Kingdom line, I had to have him. I don’t really remember much about him in the cartoon, but I remember he didn’t look much like the toy. |
The Kingdom Huffer tries to blend the look of the cartoon with the aesthetic of the toy. It’s mostly great.
He’s small for this class of Transformer, but the character is supposed to be small anyway.
Lets talk about robot mode.
Overall I think he looks good. I miss the more robotic looking face of the G1 toy, but this is fine. He’s got good articulation and nice paint apps. Nothing to really complain about in this mode.
One thing I noticed about robot mode is the lack of the small pegs that the blast attachment parts attach to. There are 7 5mm holes for other attachments around the figure.
Huffer’s weapon is formed from the two side panels of the dump body in truck mode. It’s a very cool and unique repurposing of parts! I love when weapons and accessories are worked into the alt mode.
The other part of the dump body becomes a shield.
The transformation to alt mode is where I have a few issues. The transformation of the front cab involves moving things out of the way to unfold the wheels from the chest, but I cannot seem to do it without popping the wheels off in the process. It doesn’t feel engineered very well, with poor clearances, and when it’s done you do have a bit of a gap where you can see through the body. Also note how close the silver brackets are to the back of the front wheels in this mode.
The clear cockpit is nice, as are the painted wiper blades.
You can see here the dump body made out of the sides of the gun and the shield. You can also see the hands just sort of turned in and exposed. I can’t help but think they could have engineered a way to hide them in the arms.
With the dump body removed, you can see 5th wheel attachment point for a trailer. Huffer can actually tow Optimus Prime’s trailer, just like in the show.
