Kujinmaru
I have to admit that the only reason I ever got into the characters from Mashin Hero Wataru was because of playing Keith Courage on my TurboGrafx 16. Most everything I like is tied to some extent to my childhood. When I saw that Robot Spirits started releasing characters in the line, I jumped at the chance to review them. This is my third review from the Mashin Hero Wataru line of Robot Spirits figures.
Since the box is typical Robot Spirits in design, I decided to skip it. Instead lets take a look at the set. It comes with everything you see here. In typical Bandai fashion, materials, paint apps and detailing is top-notch.
Kujin-Maru is well done and the likeness is spot on. The plastics are precise as well as the paint apps. Nothing sloppy. The ball joints could be tighter but they will hold a pose. It has many articulation points so finding just the right pose shouldn’t be a problem.
There is a little Watanabe figure included. Like all other Mashin Hero Wataru releases, the figure is a non-poseable PVC figure.
What it lacks in articulation it makes up for in detailing.
Kujin-Maru also has a flight mode which is achieved by opening flaps on the wings and extending the outer wing-tips. Included is a nice stand to hold this flight pose.
Included are nicely detailed parts to recreate the Takahaju effect.
This really adds to the look of the whole set if you plan to display it
One of the coolest parts of this set is the ability to “combine” with Ryujin-Maru. By combine I mean the ability to have Kujin-Maru attach to his back and carry him. Now before you go out and buy this set just for that feature, please make sure you have the Version 2 Ryujin-Maru as the regular version will not work.
If you have Version 2, awesome. This combo requires removal of two small tabs on Ryujin-Maru’s shoulders and unfolding tabs on Kujin-Maru’s feet. Adding an included stand bracket will allow you to take full advantage of the stand.
Overall a nice addition to your Mashin Hero Wataru collection.
