Luke's T-16 Skyhopper
Editors note: Sadly these images are lost and not recoverable. Since Dan has passed, there is no way to restore them. If we ever come across another Skyhopper, we’ll add them
Today I will be reviewing Kenner’s 1996 release of the almost mythical T-16 Skyhopper. You may remember that the only screen time the T-16 had is when Luke is playing with a scale model of one in episode IV. Oh, and let’s not forget Luke’s mention of shooting Womp Rat in his T-16 during the meeting regarding the Death Stars attack strategy.
The T-16 comes in the ho-hum boring black with green hue, mid-nineties Kenner Star Wars packaging. Right out of the box, the T-16 is a small project. You must assemble wings, body, and a lot of stickers. Allow a half hour or so of your time. The toy is comprised of poorly detailed, cheap feeling speckled plastic.
In the first three photo’s I want to give you a quick walk around the ship. Note the firing laser cannon mounts to the back of the ship during landing. Also, notice the wings can fold just like the Imperial Shuttle Tydirium
These next three pictures show you the T-16 with its escape cockpit detached from its main fuselage. I don’t know about you but I hate this feature and I will just leave it together. I think Kenner was trying to add play value, unfortunately, this just looks silly in my opinion.
Cockpit re-entering main fuselage.
Honestly, my advice on this ship is….well, unless you’re a real die-hard fan, forget it. If you must have, don’t pay over $10 for it.
