Iron Man 2

Original MSRP: 114.99
Toy Number: 1977

Just when you thought it was safe to go to the toy store… another Iron Man toy lurks on the shelf waiting to attack your wallet! Yes folks, what we got here is another Iron Man 2 toy for your enjoyment. At the moment there are entire isles dedicated to this franchise. This particular toy comes to us from Mega Bloks, makers of wonderful, imaginative building toys. I have to admit, I was expecting some sort of semi-deformed Iron Man 2 toy, since the Mega Bloks series is catered to children, but was in store was a surprisingly well proportioned and articulated figure. The toy comes in a clever package. Picture a carton of french fries with a hard plastic top. The reason the top is hard plastic will become evident later in the review. Unfortunately, I am in the middle of moving stuff around here in the house, so the box is MIA. This set comes with 55 pieces. For Ages 6+. The assembly is pretty straight forward and easy. Some steps require a good amount of force which can cause some sore fingers so kids may be asking for help with these. The rest is just easy to snap on ball joints. Once it is assembled and the soft vinyl armor is applied, you end up with this.

What’s interesting to note is that the armor and face mask is made of very soft vinyl which pressure fits into the various holes on the body to complete the look of Iron Man. You’ll notice that when the figure is not wearing the face mask, there is a clear red head behind it.

Here is the backside of the soft face mask.

On the backside, the figure has a very generic look and nothing to indicate that you are looking at Iron man other than the dark red metallic color. If you look closely enough at the plastic, you’ll notice it has metallic flakes.

Now, what I am going to show you next is my favorite part of the toy. It features the ever popular spring loaded missile!

Iron Man Mark VI Techbot

That’s right, they banned small missiles on older toys because they were dangerous but big long missiles are OK for modern toys. Yay! The blaster slots into the forearm where Iron Man is able to show it off to his enemies.

This is my favorite pose.

Speaking of poses, this figure is ready for most poses you can think of. Although some joints limit movement, you will find that spinning them to one side makes more clearance in some cases allowing for more inventive poses.

Remember the plastic cap I mentioned earlier? The box top? Well the reasoning behind this is that it doubles as the toy’s stand. Pretty clever way to save space in the packaging. The box top is made of the same plastic used on Iron Man and features an Iron Man 2 decal. Here is the figure in flight mode using the stand.

The set comes with a clear stand shaft and ball joints allowing you to hook the figure to the base for some cool flying action.

Well there you have it. A fun toy anyone can build and proudly display. Looks right at home with the rest of my collection using the base. It’s very sturdy with no floppy parts anywhere. Plastic is strong and very resistant to breaking. In fact if you force something, worse thing that can happen is that the part pops off a ball joint. It’s also a lot taller than it looks in the pictures, check him out next to one of the ever popular 3 3/4″ Iron Man 2 Figures.

Now, just because it’s an Iron Man 2 figure doesn’t mean you can make up your own design. After all, it’s a Mega Bloks toy so it’s only limited by your imagination. Be creative and have fun.
