Mechanical Chameleon

The Mechanical Chameleon set from JMBricklayer is super cool. As a giant robot fan, i’ve always loved cutaway drawings and diagrams of the inner workings of the robots. Well this kit does the same thing. One half is a Mechanical Chameleon, the other is the actual mechanics! Lets take a look!

The box is nice as usual.. This one is co-branded with Top Toy, whoever they are.

I didn’t take many build pictures, but you can see the timelapse of it’s construction in the video below:

The big issue with this kit is the light up assembly. The tube is just too firm for it to lay flat like the directions show. Thankfully, JMBricklayer has provided a guide for easier assembly here: https://www.jmbricklayer.com/chameleon-70124-building-tutorial/

Even with the guide, it’s still a challenge. I had to be content with a few parts not connecting, and I’m fine with that. The whole thing is a mechanical jumble so you never even notice.

The end result is beautiful:

The light carries through to the other side to illuminate the clear shell.

One side is all mechanical components and the other side is a hollow shell with nice tampo printed graphics on it. There isn’t much mechanical detailing on this side of the kit.

The mechanical side is where it’s at. I love the way it looks.

The tail is super articulated and can be displayed any way you like.

While there is movement for the rest of the Chameleon, it cannot stand without it’s display stand. The stand itself is a work of art with nice use of transparent parts. For example, check out this flower made out of painters pallets!
