Monster Hunter 4 Full Action Figure Reus Set (Swordsman)

Original MSRP: 6476

Greetings my toys-collecting brethren. Its been a long time since I wrote a review. 2015 was one crazy year for me, so I have not had time to contribute here. But enough about me, let’s see what we got here. Its an Action Figure From Monster Hunter 4. Seriously, that’s the name on the box. Oh, I bought mine used so its missing a stand and some picture slides for it but it wont take you away from the whole experience. I guarantee it.

I never thought the day will come where I would complain about a toy’s name. Whoever in charge of naming this and put it on the box deserve a kick to the groin. I mean look, Action Figure From Monster Hunter 4? (insert Nicholas Cage meme here) Really? If you go over Sentinel’s official website, they call this release as Monster Hunter 4 Full Action Figure Reus Set. What the hell is Reus and why is there a naming difference? I never played Monster Hunter games but I do know this is the Blademaster version of the Rathalos armor(correct me if I’m wrong). Now, why am I ranting about product naming? Because when I try to look up information of this release, there’s really not much. Tried goggling a review and nothing came up except for one unboxing video. I don’t know if people never talk about this figure or I just used the wrong keywords. Seriously, if you want to google this, what will you type to find exactly what you want? Action Figure From Monster Hunter 4? Oh Sentinel….

(Editor’s note: This figure was offered exclusively through Capcom’s online shop, E-Capcom, where it could be purchased by itself or in various bundles with Monster Hunter 4.)

The box is very similar to SIC figures by Bandai as the figure inside is pretty much the same size as SIC.

Inside the box, everything is laid out on a single plastic tray. You will be getting:

5

-the main figure
-long sword and scabbard
-hammer
-alternate shoulder armor
-calm open hands(left and right)
-splayed open hands(left and right)
-holding things hands(left and right)

and of course, instruction manual.

Out of the box, the figure is good to go.

I held Sentinel as a toy maker with a very high regards. A lot higher than Bandai due to how expensive Sentinel’s stuff are. I’m glad to say the Hunter does not disappoint. The details and paint application are beautiful. Never played Monster Hunter but from what I see online, the game accuracy is spot on. If there is anything to complain about the looks, it’s the mounting peg for the scabbard at the back that sticks out a little due to colour difference but hey, its at the back side anyway.

Before we move on to articulation, I’m gonna jump to the accessories for a bit.

14

15

The figure came with this bulkier shoulder armor. I don’t know what it represents since I never played the game, and I don’t really like how it looks.

16

Due to it’s size, it hinders some articulation too so I’m not gonna bother with it from this point onward.

17

For articulation, the figure is quite a mix bag for me. I have to mention this first, the joint tolerance is a joy to work with. I cant quite describe it but the joint felt never felt too tight or too loose. I never felt joint tolerance like this. Its something you gotta see for yourself to understand what I’m talking about.

18

Back to the movement range, the forward leg raise is a little hindered by the armor part at the waist. Its made out of rubber so you can push it a bit more but I don’t want to do that. I do wish those were jointed to give more range for the leg.

19

The head can’t really look up which is sad but it can realllllllllyyyy look down.

20

I love Sentinel because they like to make and use unconventional joints in a very clever way. In this case, you can push the upper part of the torso down which allows the head to really look down which is very cool to me.

21

The shoulder pads can move up and down and rotates around the peg. The area which I circled, THEY DO NOT MOVE THERE so don’t try to force it.

22

There is also a little flap at the neck which you can use to hide the joint. Redundant if you ask me with the big, red flap above it but it’s a nice attention to detail.

23

Waist swivel is present but this is where I’m very disappointed with the figure. When you twist the waist, it goes at an angle and grinds against some of the skirt armor in a very uncomfortable way. The same thing happens when you try to move back to its original position. Its sad when you consider how smooth the other joints are.

As for accessories, you already saw the alternate shoulder pads. Now we move on to the long sword. Man, I love big sword and I cannot lie. Its beautiful. Same goes with the scabbard.

27

You can attach the scabbard to the figure via the peg at the back.

I love big sword and I love it even more if the figure can actually wields it. The figure can wields it with little problem. The problem came from the holding things hand. They cant grab the weapon that securely but with there are some places on the hilt where the hand will hold it. It also helps that the sword is light.

34

35

Next on the list of arsenal is the hammer( I think :p). Just like the sword, its beautiful. You can even see the poor creature’s head that have been used for the making of this weapon.

36

37

Unlike the sword, the hammer is befittingly heavier. This makes the holding hands issue a lot more apparent. To make things worse, the hammer’s handle is a lot thicker than the sword’s. With some patience, you can get a pose with the hammer but things get really annoying fast for me so not much photo for this weapon.

So, should you buy this?

As of writing, only two companies made this figure. Sentinel and Revoltech. I never handle the Revoltech version but for me, the Sentinel version wins hands down. Having that said, this version is not without its flaw. I wish and I knew there are things that can be done better namely the waist, the hands and legs. When you consider the overall aspect, its really minor but as I said earlier, I held Sentinel with a very high regard because their stuff is not cheap. I got mine for about USD70 and I guess that’s not too bad but it is still pricey. I also wish some more weapons were added. I would love the stuff that the Revoltech version has to be included here as well but oh well. If you love what you see here and have the dough to spare, definitely pick this guy up. If budget is your issue then the Revoltech version is the next best thing.

With that, it’s the end of this review. I hope you enjoy reading it and as usual, any comments or critics(positive or negative) are always welcome to improve my review the next time around. This is Ghost_XIII, reporting out :).
