Part six of the 80’s Nostalgic Home series shifts the narrator back to the older brother of the family.  “Danran no hitotoki” or harmonious moment focuses on a family dinner in our 80s household.

Today’s dinner is Oden. The Oden we blow on while eating really warms the body up. Time flies watching the programs that the whole family enjoys. “When Dad says ‘by the way, have you done your homework, Buchie?” Uh oh!

A mini gas stove and large pot are included for the family to eat Oden, a traditional Japanese winter dish similar to hot pot. The pot includes a lid and broth piece.

Included are seven Oden ingredients that all fit into the pot. From left to right, we have two slices of Daikon, Konnyaku (a jelly type of food made from Konjac), two ‘tofu purses’ known as Mochiiri Kinchaku, and a piece of octopus. I may be misremembering, but I seem to recall seeing most oden ingredients being sold in convenience stores in Japan.

Two bowls and two pairs of chopsticks are also included.

The remote for the still unopened television.

The cut outs this time are for a supermarket ad, tablemat and evening news TV insert.

“Harmonious Moments” comes with possibly the most accessories of all the sets, though fitting the Oden ingredients into the pot can be kind of annoying. It’s a great little set, but the Oden and stove are rather large and take up most of the space on the table, making it difficult to fit all the other accessories on the table as well.
