With the last set of the Nostalgic 80s Home, the family patriarch is finally introduced in a sweet bonding moment with his son, Buchie. We can assume this is sometime in the evening, coming home from a long day’s work as a salaryman; the father sits down to relax and watch some home videos of his son while eating a snack.

At night, my dad has a drink. “This is Buchie (you) when you were a baby” he says as he shows me the photo album. It took a while for my hair to start growing and my mom was really worried. Phew! I mean

Smoking is still big in Japan, but I’m sure it was even bigger in the 80s. There are two cigarettes included along with an ashtray and zippo that can open and close. The pack of cigs is the fictional ‘80s Moon’ brand though it would have been neat if was the aptly named Hope or Peace brand.

Buchie’s school festival is recorded on a VHS which includes a clear case. The VHS actually fits into the TV which is a neat little touch as well.

The evening snack comes in a large wooden tray and chopsticks. To go with his smoke, the father has a decanter and cup of Sake. In the green bowl we have Hiyayakko, a chilled tofu dish with green onion toppings that is a popular drinking snack. An open can Sanma, or pacific Saury is also included which I’m also assuming goes well with Sake.

For cut outs, we have what I’m assuming is a table mat, photo album and TV insert of Buchie running at a school event. From the photo album, it seems I have been mistaken the entire time and Buchie is actually the younger sibling, and his sister is the elder.

“Reminiscing with father” is the perfect set to end the 80s nostalgia trip. From after school snacks, to dinner preparation and family meals, the Nostalgic 80s Home has given us some insight into the life of this family in a period and place most readers of the site probably have not experienced. While smoking IS bad, you can’t deny that they cigs and lighter make perfect accessories to make any toy look cooler. My original intention for purchasing the entire case was to get enough accessories to fill out a Japanese living room diorama I was planning on building. I still intend to build it eventually, but I’ve enjoyed the Re-Ment Petit Sample line so much that I’ve ended up ordering quite a few more sets just for fun. At roughly 26 dollars from AmiAmi, you really do get quite a lot of stuff and well worth the price.
