Pegila
“Pegila” is a monster which first appeared in “Ultra Q” (Ep.5 , “Pegila has Come!”) and later on in “Ultraman”. Although when he appeared in Ultraman, they stuck a couple of horns on his head and gave him a new name which is nothing new in monster movies. He’s a mean cold monster…literally. Everything he breathes on gets real nice and frosty. I’m a sucker for a good cheesy, obviously-a-guy-in-a-suit monster. X-Plus comes through with a cheap fix in the form of the Daikaiju Series Mini Ultra Q Pegila. My previous monsters have been mostly cheap Bandai vinyls so it was refreshing to come across something with much more detail than I am accustomed to. This figure comes in a windowed box so you can see what’s waiting to be released.
Since I am new to collecting monsters and this series, I didn’t know what to expect. I quickly learned this was a fixed-pose statue. Normal reaction is to say “meh” but it’s such an interesting piece that I didn’t mind. After all it was obviously made with the intention of being a display piece. He looks good from all angles and features a very clean and detailed sculpt. Paint application is very clean and carefully applied.
Notice the suit’s seam line running down the middle of the back.
What I dig about this figure is the loads of detail. Like I’m looking at someone wearing the real suit.
Details abound even on the backside. This is not your quick one second airbrush job here.
It comes with a vignette base for him to stomp on and look cool.
Although it retailed for about $45 US, I was lucky enough to score one for about the same price as a cheap vinyl- $11. One thing I love to do with my monsters is take dramatic colorful photos, loosely based on what they would look like if they were stomping around the bright city lights of Tokyo.
As a fixed-pose statue, it does the job of capturing the terrifying moments of Pegila’s attack.
